Instead of going to 95 over the next 3 months, they've instead decided to end with a strong focus on the Kyoto arc.
This supports the theory that the new Kenshin anime work will be a true final season along the lines of the Jinchuu Arc or some new Watsuki canon arc to end the series properly. It aligns them nicely with the with start of Fall 2011 season in October, as well as the final Blu-ray release on 10/26. If this potentially upcoming tweet announces something different, I'd be surprised.

Awesome, I was hoping this would air in fall. Now, if we could just get a studio other than DEEN to animate it...unless they can resurrect some of their old talent.

Very, very interesting indeed. Would make a great deal of sense for a fall premiere of a Jinchu adaptation.

I am so happy that they're planning on doing the Jinchu arc. I have been waiting so long for an anime version of this. I liked the OVA that was more or less a recap over the series, I thought it is a shame that they won't animate this. I'm nervous though. So much time has passed between the series, and I worry of disappointment. This could just be my pessimistic nature talking though. I don't think a reboot is necessary, but if they wish to pick it up somewhere leading to Jinchu I won't mind it too much. This is officially my most anticipated series of this year~

Before this goes too far out of line, this is still speculation since nothing has been officially announced (except their re-airing schedule through September which happens to stop at the conclusion of the Kyoto arc). As of right now, it only appears the possibility has increased that the new work will be a sequel to the Kyoto arc, taking into account circumstantial evidence, but they could still surprise us with something completely different. We'll have to wait and see.

Thank you for clearing that up. I misunderstood based on what was discussed. I often find I am behind in information as compared to my peers here, so I got a bit carried away. Now I am very curious what they'll do.

I'm still hoping that it'll be a new series that will adapt all of the manga, just like FMA: Brotherhood. Of course i'm only saying that because i'm in the middle of reading the manga for the first time.

I'd love to see that too, but I think it may be too much to dream of.

I'm amazed that Watsuki is only 41 years old. What's next for him, I wonder.

Thats incredible. I didn't image him as so young. That would mean he was in his twenties when he made Kenshin? I would be quite curious if he did something new.

It's true that a live adaptation film was announced, though it's not the announcement that we are waiting for. That will be JUMP related.

For those interested, here's the live action movie news.

24, in fact, when it was serialized.

Yes, apparently the live-action (which had been rumored for over a year) is not directly related to the anime announcement.

So anybody want to have a re-watch of the canon episodes of the original Rurouni Kenshin anime leading up to the (possible) new season in the fall?

Are you sure it's unrelated? Jump publishes Kenshin, so they would most definitely be involved in every aspect, including the announcement of a live action movie. I think this could very well be the same announcement the editor was teasing.

24! That is amazing. The way he wrote the story and the characters I thought surly he was older. There is a live action coming out too? Hmm, don't know how I feel about that if there is.
