I think that it's an excellent show that has quite a lot of appeal to different demographics. To date, just about everyone that's given it a chance has given Hikaru no Go a pretty good review.

I began to watch Hikaru no Go for one reason and that was the name.
I thought it sounded kind of cool. but when I started watching I was hooked. the story, the characters and the tension of the story is great, and it remains as of today still in my top 20 list.

Lastly, because of integrating many elements successfully into the show, and using them at good levels make that show one of the must-watch shows... |

even though it ends with the 2004 new years special that shows the matches to qualify for the international turnament and no further this episode gives a good ending I think. and even though it gives a fair ending it still makes it clear that they can easy continue the Anime with another OVA or something if they wish for it. Sure I would love for them to make Anime of the turnament. but I love this Anime just the way it is too. anyways this is a must-watch anime.

I felt a bit gypped that we didn't get to see the tournament; I would have preferred that over some of the filler episodes near the end. Still I think the only reason I would complain about the ending is that it ended. I just want(ed) to see more Hikaru no Go.

Oh ok - thanks for the info, I've watched the series and (I believe 3?) special episodes. I've watched the episode to determine the 3 members to represent Japan - from the postings, I had thought that the Japan vs Korea match was also animated!
Once again, thanks. |

IIRC the manga was already long done by the time the anime got anywhere near the end of it's TV series run. In fact, I'd have to go relook at everything to check, but the end set of episodes pretty much follows exactly how the manga went, possibly a bit condensed, but overall the same.

I totally agree with you. Hikaru no Go is fatefull to the manga and to me one of the best Anime's ever made. it really makes you want more of it and I think that with the 76'st episode 2004 new years special it makes for a decent edning of the show too. even though I would have love to see the japan-China-Korea u18 tournament but still I love HnG
