Doctor Who!

!! I couldn't believe there was not such a thread...that I could find anyway...
Anyway, thread for discussion of the TV series Doctor Who.
Me, I'm currently on Season 3 (of the new one) Episode 6.
"The Daleks just changed their minds. The Daleks never change their minds."
and I'm thinking, maybe there's some hope for the human-dalek idea after all?

I've seen just about every episode of the entire series with the exception of the most recent ones due to me not having any TV. Yes this includes all the ones from the 60s as well. The PBS station in my area used to run them every Saturday morning.

I watched Rowan Atkinson in a classic comic relief video about Dr Who. He should totally star in the role for real rather than appearing in a parody. Steven Moffat truly impresses me with the witty lines.

I've seen all the new ones so far and some of the older ones. My favorite doctor is probably David Tennant and my favroite villians are the Daleks.

I wish PBS did that here.

I loved Tom Baker as the Doctor and my favorite villians are the Cybermen.

Oh and my favorite intro-end music for the show:

So far, favorite companion=Rose (I HATE MARTHA SO MUCH. She's a wannabe and thinks she's got something, but she doesn't. And the way she treats the Doctor...*shakes head*)
Favorite villain=daleks
favorite doctor=TENnant.
favorite episode=daleks in manhattan

S3E8 (the one with the sun particles) nearabouts made me have a heart attack. Last8 minutes and still no resolution...time is ticking...and then BAM.
Whoaaa. I got to say, very well done, very suspenseful.a

My only gripes:
--I want Rose back
--Martha (and her mother)--why couldn't we have Donna instead??

I loved the Baker-era as a child, as well as the daleks. Haven't watched though more, until recently, I gave the restart of the show a try because of Torchwood and moving to the UK, I liked the first two doctors, particularly the second, but the third (current) one is "meh" so I am not up to date any more.

For me. Tom Baker was definitely THE Doctor, especially with that iconic scarf.

My favorite Doctor is the Eleventh Doctor since i love Matt Smith's quirkiness of the character of an old man in a young body trying to act cool.

Bowties are cool.

Perhaps someday I can catch some reruns of the new series. But until then...

Seen every serial every broadcast, and the various movie attempts besides. I'm a Baker (Tom) guy, as he was the Doc I grew up watching on WTTW in Chicago. I also think Colin Baker was extremely underrated.

The new series has been a mixed bag. Some wonderful stuff, mostly written by Moffat - and the show has gotten better under his tenure. But's it's too depressing and self-important, generally speaking, and relies way too much on season-long mysteries. It also imbues the Doctor with way too many human limitations - he's not really alien enough for me anymore. All of the new Doctors have been fine (Tennant is my favorite of the three) and I've liked most of the new assistants OK, with Rory and Donna my favorites. But there's no besting Sarah Jane Smith.

Only picked it up after the revival of the TV series sadly, so I've only seen 9, 10, and 11 But Daleks? I guess I understand. They're cool and all, but nothing beats weeping angels IMO. Blink is still probably one of my top two if not top episode of all the episodes post-revival

Btw, can we get the "!" in the thread title changed to a "?"

I really should start watching, shouldn't I? Apparently the 10th Doctor is a good place to start? I'm pretty daunted by the huge amount of material there is for this show... but I'm quite sure I'll like it (another reason I shouldn't start now, a.k.a. right before exams)

If you really want to, you should start with the original series. I can't get my hands on it, and I admit that the quality of old episodes does irk me a bit . If you're going to skip to the new series, then start with 9, because there are some stuff that tie in later, plus 9 was pretty good too.

Oh and I forgot to mention my favorite episode: The Girl in the Fireplace.

I think I mentioned this in the Recent Movies thread, but I'll repeat it here: I love the recent Doctor Who Christmas episode "A Christmas Carol" (guest starring the great Michael Gambon). It was a superb episode and an all-around good hour of film.

That being said, as others have mentioned, I often saw Doctor Who on my local PBS station (which also showed some anime movies once in a blue moon and only after midnight), so I did grow up with the show (primarily the 70s and 80s Who). I have no real favourite; each Doctor has their strengths and their weaknesses.

Wait you've seen every episode of Doctor Who ever made? I wasn't convinced that was even possible. Weren't some of the oldest episodes supposedly lost forever?

A fair point! I should have said "every episode broadcast in the US." Some of those Hartnell and Troughton ones were never found, thanks to the BBC's despicable policy at the time of destroying all their film on a regular basis.

Since we're all talking about Doctor Who. Here's a fanime done by animator OtaKing who apparently is now working with the BBC animating missing scenes from the First Doctor

Watch starting with Nine, but only watch 1, 12, and 13. Then watch the restof the seasons, then come back. That's what I did, and I didn't miss anything vital.
Plus, David Tennant is both a better actor and more attractive (WAY more attractive) than Christopher Eccleston, in my personal opinion.
Allons-y!

I quite liked the ninth doctor in fact.

I didn't watched any old-serie episode, but I am a big fan on the new-serie.
