Guys, let's not delude ourselves into thinking that something will be done to address the police brutality. This is FUCKING China we are talking about here.

Which is why protests must keep on going. Like in Russian cities in recent weeks, this is more or less the same fight for accountability and democratization of elections.

Lam explained why she took a long time to announce the decision to withdraw the extradition bill.

Global Times ran an editorial and says most of the protest groups shouldn't have a reason why they should continue.

It's pretty clear from the leaked audio recording and the reporting by Reuters that Lam has made no decisions without clearance from Beijing. So the unanswered question is why has Xi decided to back down on the extradition bill. The CCP must have decided it wasn't worth the cost. I doubt America played any role in this matter. Perhaps the Chinese think it could hurt their relations with Europe?

Might be as simple as realising the bill is causing widespread rioting just by existing. Hong Kong won't be much of a cash cow for China if it's constantly in unrest.

I'll be interested to see if simply withdrawing the bill will be enough to stop the demonstrations. The most radical groups will certainly not stand down, but given the sizes of the earlier protests I'd have to believe that hundreds of thousands of people will continue to march even after the bill's withdrawal.

Li Keqiang put his foot down on the matter and says Beijing still back Lam’s administration to work things with the protest groups.

——-

Saw some news vids and all that not all are pleased with the bill withdrawal. Those interviewed mention that she’s out of touch.

Boycotts are taking places in schools.

One of the MTR entrances in Central is blocked by fire.

Now that is beyond retarded.

Throw a tear gas grenade at a bunch of reporters and bystanders with no protesters in sight, really? Seriously, those guys deserve to go on welfare and unemployment. Just a bunch of small d***s without their uniform and armor.

Heads up that folks and me (with number 2 older bro) is going to HK in Wed. for overdue banking business. They’re keeping an eye on the news and we should leave by Sunday afternoon.

I’ll keep you guys posted.

You're deluded if you call that "brutality". If anything, the cops have been extraordinarily disciplined and restrained in their actions.

Stay safe! Avoid active riot zones where possible and ideally, don’t travel alone.

If anything, we’re not venturing to Kowloon. And I know that in the last day or so, we’re limiting our movement to Admiralty.

Though if I’m traveling without the folks, I’m usually with older bro number 2. I do expect to be profiled since I’m ethnic Chinese (grew up in the Philippines/Canada, never met my extended family in the mainland).

For the record, the official national anthem for Hong Kong is the same as China's.

I have watched football/soccer for more than 21 years, but this is the first time I have ever seen the "home" national anthem getting booed as hard as that by an angry crowd.

Safely arrived in HK:

- Heavy AVSECO presence outside the exit going to the taxis.

- Spotted motorbike officers escorting Benzes on a highway going to the airport.

- Saw white plastic barriers around some stations near Admiralty.

Heads up folks.

PTU’s deployed at Central MTR.

Heard my dad say “HK belongs to China” when he suggests a selfie. (In joking stride).

All is fine. About to leave HK. Latest trouble is from some malls in Kowloon and some blockades in Tin Shui Wai(?).

There’s also a raid launched when police raided a shop that sold masks and protective gear with a search warrant.

Also, entry to the airport is strict like NAIA in Manila. Passport and boarding pass is needed to get in.

March happening in Central to British consulate. HKPF mention that it’s not legal.

Admiralty MTR is closed as a safety precaution.

And this happened after I left the airport.

At some point it wouldn't be surprising if a police station meets a rather ... explosive end.
