Pretty slow? Seems just right...

Too many animes nowadays pumping crack and squeezing in 3-4 chapters per episode.. Sword Art Online's just one example of how to ruin a perfectly good series by rushing it every. single. episode.

I think that they've done good work in adapting so much material in 1 episode - they cut some unneeded or minor stuff (like the flashback about the one who have been attacking protagonist and the fact that he was using drugs).
On the other hand there was some shameful censoring in the 2nd episode - I've posted some examples from the manga for comparison but received a warning and it was deleted
You can look it up on sankaku though (if you're not afraid of spoilers about the second episode).

I suggest you to check chapters from 32 to 34 after watching the second episode - don't worry, it'll be flashback so the order isn't very important here.

Just watched ep 1...

But it looks like "mom" is a common problem to all gamers around the world eh?
(this happens to often... LOL)
BTW, what the heck is that controller made of? (usually when I see that happen, the controller breaks up, not go into the wall...)

And ep 2 preview... O man... it looks like this anime is going to be major drama/ tragedy type.

Spoiler for Bomberman ending giveaway:

Eh. Didn't really like how didn't catch on to wth was happening faster. Guess he's just psychotic when he's playing the game. Was hoping he would be able to turn on the switch and actually be super good immediately.

Man my mom would have kicked me out if I had that shitty attitude.

It is always nice to see adult characters. Using bombs is at least a twist. But my interest went way up when I found out the mangaka did Otogi Matsuri. Now that is great anime material. Hopefully this does well enough for Otogi to get animated.

Your mileage may vary with "ruin".

I'd love it if more anime could have 3 or 4 chapters per episode, personally.

Color me quite skeptical with the start of the series, which was... quite crude to be blunt: the art style wasn't too bad, but the animation was lackluster. Ryota almost felt mentally challenged: the first bomb was fine, but wasting the second and third ones was really beyond incompetence. Really, the timer was absolutely obvious and he had a live demo the first time around, so failing to realize these were timer bomb, especially from a player perspective is just ludicrous.

Likewise, I have no idea why the other madman missed all the time, but it was even more silly to see Ryota "almost getting killed", while explosions occured like... 3m away at most from him? Really?
Going to wait for one or two more episodes, but surely not going to stick with it if there isn't any progress in aforementioned points.

EDIT: saying "stop complaining and read the manga" is anything but certainly not a good point. It just makes the anime even less self sufficient than it should be, arguably not complimenting the "adaptation" status.

You should add a spoiler tag, since midway into the show they summarize the second episode.

By the way the producer looks a lot like the "villain" of the second episode, and I can not help it but observe the similarities between the young female director he picked and the main female character

They said so already, the second half will divert from the original story.

Damn, I was hoping they'd just find a good spot to wrap up season 1 & wait for the manga to be at a nice spot before making a season 2.

Ow well, no surprise I guess.

Wasn't he some sort of critic? Or he is part of the crew?
I thought he said that they may change the ending and the second part.

^ well there is an interview with the author, producer, director, critic with some spoilers to epidodes 1 & 2. I know it's a critic that said the second season will go a different direction from the manga I just don't want madhouse to take that route

Edit
oh yeah there are also bits from the manga as well so don't watch this video if you haven't read the manga either

The ending of this episode would have been great when I was a fresh-faced anime virgin, but in my old and cynical years, I can pretty much predict with 99% accuracy that after some initial confusement, these two will come to realize who each other are, and so begins the banding together with your nakama against the odds to win the day!

Of course, Btooom could prove that there are still surprises these days, and have him kill her (crosses fingers).
