The Tatami Time Machine Blues novel is getting an anime adaptation.

Plot:

The story of Yojohan Time Machine Blues is set during a sweltering midsummer day when Ozu, the protagonist's "terrible friend", accidentally drowns the only remote control for the air conditioning unit in their apartment. While they discuss their predicament with Akashi, the protagonist's raven-haired love interest, a sloppily-dressed time-travelling student arrives from 25 years in the future, prompting the protagonist to borrow his time machine in an effort to snatch the remote control from the past before it breaks.

Wtf! Talk about surprising! Tatami Galaxy was superb on its own but really excited to see what Shingo will bring to the table.

I would have preferred if Masaaki Yuasa or Masayuki Yoshihara do it, but more adaptations of the Tomihiko Morimi's work is a damn welcome sight. If the source material is as good as any of the their other work and if Shingo does it justice, I don't think anything else that comes out the year this releases might even come close. Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei and Uchouten Kazoku are 2 of my most favorite series of all time.

I was far more into Penguin Highway and The Night is Short, Walk On Girl than Eccentric Family. But I will give a hell of a lot more of the benefit of the doubt that he could extend Tatami legitimately. Morimi has a pretty good strike rate.

Unbelievable this is going to be Morimi's sixth novel that's getting an anime adaptation and yet it's fair to say none of his works has mass appeal to the average anime audience. (not complaining more like being dumbfounded here)
Definitely going to watch this and probably rewatch Tatami Galaxy along with The Night is Short, Walk On Girl before this series airs.

Well, I don't know why it happens either but I'm certainly happy so much of his work has been/is getting adapted. He's one of the best author out there.

Not yet. Is strange given the amount of October titles confirmed, but it was shown as a 2022 title when announced. Bofuri S2 also has no confirmed date aside from 2022. So either a Q4 release or delayed until 2023.

Yay...we finally have a date. Definitely need a rewatch by then, it's been a long while since I watched the original.

Watched the first episode and it's pretty good.

Spoiler:

It's definitely not a direct sequel, the characters are the the same but the situation is not where we left off at the end of Tatami Galaxy. Also you can already tell that there's time travel shenigans involved from the get go with with the future main character promising the other characters he perform a naked naked dance or that he's (presumably) the one asking Akashi out for watching the bonfire together. No idea who the shabby character is though, my first thought was a tanuki for the unexpected Uchouten Kazoku crossover.

Also the Time Machine uses a tatami as its base, it looks so silly and I love it.
