Sorcerous Stabber Orphen

A new anime project 'Sorcerous Stabber Orphen' announced. Coming for 2019.

Plot
Quote:
Six years ago at the magic school known as the Tower of Fang, a grave accident happened involving the magical sword Baltanders and the magic user Azali. Unable to control the sword's power, Azali was transformed into the shape of a great dragon who since that day became known as Bloody August. Krilancelo, a young magician at the Tower who cared greatly for Azali found much to his disgust that the elders of the Tower of Fang were less than willing to save Azali and wanted rather to pretend the accident never happened. Angered by their stand, Krilanceloa swore that he would find a way to return Azali to her former self. Thus he forsook the name Krilancelo and declared himself Orphen, leaving the Tower and his magical studies behind to wander the world...

Episode 1:

Not bad for the opening song.

Orphen has a personality that I hope I can get used to. They introduced the idea of magic and didn't hold back on some of the fighting scenes in the first episode. Cleao Everlasting is also introduced and she has a tomboyish-like personality.

Pretty much an introductory episode but it has my interest somewhat for now. I haven't seen the original series either so coming into this anime fresh.

I never finished the original series and don't remember much of what I saw back then. After watching the 1st episode, I think I'll have a better chance of sticking to the end with this version. Maybe when the dub starts up, I'll get my husband to give it a try as well.

I have feeling few things got changed from first anime. Then again I didn't read novel so I can't say which one is more faithfull anyway. Either way it was good start, even if not best one ever.

Just hope that if we get past this arc, it will not turn into gag show like first anime. That was quite cringy.

This show, It feels like it is intentionally keeping everything old school.
But ahhh, everyone were so young back then...

Yeah, this first episode definitely had an old school feel to it. It got me to stick around.

Mother of nostalgia. It's obvious they wanted the reboot to reintroduce every major character at the same time. I mean, Azari's identity was first revealed in the third episode alongside Orphen's past when he had that long name. The animation is nice but I don't know if I can get used to this Bloody August dragon. While it sure has the same premise, the pilot episode sure tried making it more lighthearted while the narrative this time focuses more on Orphen than on Cleo back in the 90s. I like the opening song and it kinda reminds me those Persona games. I won't comment more in the case I spoil something accidentally.

This is the opinion of someone that didn't watch the original, only the OP so take it like you want but I think I was right. Old school anime desings translate like shit in current animation. For this like this is that I never ever want another season of Slayers, remembering the lackluster that the last ones were. The only solution I can think for this is remade the designs to the current anime style. Good this is internet as I probably would be beat up for this if not, but that is what I think.

There's a lot about this show that I could forgive for the sake of a genre I like, but that awful cringey soundtrack from 80's isn't one of them...
