But even in Achiga we got Shizu, who didn't even need much nopan shots, it was pretty obvious at first sight. Designs in Shinohayu are more subdued in that type of stuff, though still very nice, particularly Kanna. |

I'm ok with either, but its obvious which one dominates in Saki. To change subject, leaks for the new shinohayu are out. I can't post images right now, but it looks like a good one. Spoiler for Spoiler:
Most importantly, though, we get to see a couple more players, and hopefully future rivals, and one of them is a familiar name, sort of. Spoiler for Surprise!:
Well played, Ritz. |

I hope the next season of Saki anime will be Shinohayu. That'd be awesome! Still though, there is one thing I'm really looking forward to in the main series: the re-match between Saki and Kyouko Suehara. |

Well, finally began and caught up to the most recent release of Shinohayu.
Hmm ... gotta say that it is a pleasant side story (or maybe prequel?) to the main Saki story line. I have found myself able to connect with Shino, and am especially happy to see the uncle so positively portrayed (male characters being a rarity in the Saki-verse and all). It was great to see Shino get the comeback win in that local tournament. I also really like Hayarin's mini arc - very touching. Hafta admit though that if there were anyone I was interested to see more of in this side story manga it would have to be Mihirogi Uta (i.e. "Wakkannya!") - I liked her when she first started showing up in Achiga-hen. But I gotta say one of my favorite parts about Shinohayu has been Ritz's drawing more and more beautiful landscape shots, especially early on - they were quite nice.

The visual style IS a lot more like Achiga now that you mention it and I look back on the releases....

BTW, Aguri Igarashi also illustrated another Seinen manga about a girl's sports team: Bamboo Blade, about kendo. I highly recommend it! It's a great combination of quirky character-based comedy and heartfelt moments. |

Honestly, this whole story feels more slice of life than any other Saki related thing, which is good, since the main series already provides more than enough on the mahjong front. Still, a big match against some of the newcomers would be nice.[/QUOTE] |
