Well, that happened
I think we can confirm two things now: This is not your average anime, and Le-rather, Doronjo-chan is the heart of this show. It's funny, when I saw the title, I was expecting silly fanservice hijinks, now I think we NEED those. Also, it seems the flashbacks are officially a thing, which is good to me. Now I'm gonna go watch something else to cheer me up. |

Wow, this is one hell of a twisted dystopia they've created here in Yatterman Kingdom.
The forced 'Banzai!' from the crowd hoping they'd not be the next to be hauled off for hard labour was chilling. If you want a vision of the future, imagine a group of masked robots chanting "Yatterman!" - forever. The goofiness of the robots and the hope from Doronjo is the only light note here. |

Holy damn crap! That was so sad and hopeless of those people... to see Mitchan shout Banzai! Banzai! while her husband is taken away for 35 years of hardworking labour where he could easily die and she is forced to bear and raise her child alone, in a land that has bad crops and suffers under Yatterman shouting robots...daaaaaaaaaaamn!
That was so sad that even Doronjo's laugh felt more like a cry than a laugh... And the husband even betrayed them just to get betrayed and taken away while his wife is forced to say she agrees with the "honour" to work for Lord Yatterman (which sounds more like only one person though Yatterman was supposed to be a team?) and even in her pregnant state does the Yatterman salute... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- I so wanna hit that Lord Yatterman! What a cruel king, damn!!! Funny part about the monkeys though, even Gatchan wanted to come "protect" his childhoodfriend. XDDD But she really is darn cute and lovely, I would be jealous of the monkeys as well.^^ |

Time for a check in. We're 3 episodes on from the premiere, and ever since episode 2 I've felt that the show should really decide if it wants to be more balls-out goofy or deadly serious. This halfway meeting of the two isn't really working out as well as it initially seemed, and not to the extent that episode 1 promised (which seemed a more palatable 30/70 split).
That said, episode 4 seems to be the kind of steps I want to see taken. The low-brow retro humor still hugely hit-and-miss, and still a tad too self-referential for its own good (I've never watched its predecessors). But when they direct it in order to show their comically dark dystopia (BANZAI!) it works a whole lot better. More of episode 4's style of action would not go amiss either; Tatsunoko's showing their pedigree with the fight between Tonjra and Goro. |

I'm reading from other places that this episode is based on WWII Japan, where men would be forcibly dragged to fight in the war and their families had to shout Banzai. People who didn't comply would be ostracized by the community. Also, saw some speculation that the general is Ai-chan's father due to his cane and the dog robot.

Wow, the way this show contrasts the light moments with the very dark ones is astounding. At it's heart, despite the facade of the normal Yatterman tone overlaying this, this is a very grim and sad story.
The Yatterman are monsters, and have enslaved and destroyed the people of this land. I mean, come on! 80% sales tax?! Taking people from their homes and families to endure hard labor for decades on end? Crushing their moral and spirit to the point that they can barely function autonomously anymore? How on Earth did these people survive and how is Leopard her team the first to rebel against them? Is this really Yatterman or Robin Hood and her merry men? And who is this "Lord Yatterman"? The Yatterman always worked as a pair, there wasn't one person who was in charge. Something really fishy is going on here. Something happened between the time of the original Yatterman and those of today, who have pretty much made a mockery of all the originals stood for. Honestly, I can't even fault the man for turning against them at the end. He thought it was the only way to help and protect his family and I can 't fault a man for putting his family first. And Leopard's plan just to keep running and hiding was of course naive and would have never worked in the long run. And in the end, there was just nothing they could do in the face of iron grip the Yatterman have over this land. That ending where the woman just fell apart and went crazy, was so sad and chilling, and Leopard's fake laughs turning to tears were just as painful. She's sworn vengeance on the Yatterman, but I'm thinking that they're going to need more than just a "forehead flicking".

That was just weird. Tournament, snow, and ...uh, Yattercat? I wonder what else this show will do with its gimmicks? Anyways, I'll stick with this but the gimimcks can sometimes get quite crazy.

Yoru no Yatterman. Blast onwards a New Future from an Old Childhood
My memories from when I was an infant and early child are fuzzy and cannot recall too much, however, I know in my gut for certain that the Tatsunoko Time Bokan Yatterman show aired in my country over 30 years ago.
I do recall more and better the members of the Doronbo Gang than the heroes of the show, particularly their suits and physique, although the villains' names either quite eluded all this years or simple sunk into the oblivion of my childhood memory back at that time. I picked up Yoru no Yatterman due at owing a brief shard of my early childhood watching some episodes of the Time Bokan Yatterman series. I feel I do recall the original show was funny with its gags plus the slapstick made by the Doronbo Gang. Furthermore, my memory fails to recall how much evil the original Gang was, but I doubt they were the kind of absolute and heartless evil trope. Yoru no Yatterman is basically a sequel to Time Bokan Yatterman taking place likely six generations (seven generations now that's Leopard's time) later, but the show this time around implements several twists: 1. The focus is now on the last descendants of the Doronbo Gang: Leopard (from Doronjo), Voltkatze (from Bojacky), and Elephantus (from Tonzra). 2. The ironic shift is while the Yatterman from the past was a hero, seemingly their current descendants are now portrayed as the villains, and quite heartless at destroying anyone who gets in their way. 3. The reborned Doronbo Gang at Leopard's era likely will be composed of anti-heroes and anti-heroines this time around, since Leopard wants to take revenge upon the Yatterman for her mother's death. However, if the new trio starts and gets to meet people along their way into their quest, then maybe the experiences will have changes on Leopard. |

My prediction for the ending is that, they won't be able to beat the Yattermen, whoever they are and Leopard will find a way to travel back in time and become the original Doronjo to start her legacy in hope they find a way to defeat Yatterman before it's too late.

We'll Give Yatterman a Forehead Flicking
Reading your posts beforehand, the shows runs at truly depressing notes and reality checks.
Basically, a world of dimension stands in-between Leopard and her vengeance, and with the current Yattermen generation deploying robot armies against the Doronbow Gang, then chances poof like smoke. We have this hard reality portraying how much the world has become messed up by the current Yattermen, and still no explanations looming in the horizon explaining the current state of events in Yoru no Yatterman. Nevertheless, there are the cold moments as well as the lighthearted ones. And, to me my common sesnes dictates that the dove is related or representative of maybe something good happening to the Gang, or to the people coming into contact with the current Doronbow gang. That, or the dove could be a sort of connotation or allusion to Leopard |

This was an okay episode, not as good as the last one, but okay. It was a little too heavy on the comedy bits and the guy peeing everywhere was a little annoying, However, I do love seeing General Goro now, so that was cool.

We're Not Angels But We'll Pretend to Be
Actually, I watched episodes one to five in one ago, hence, I caught up. However, I do want to give the episode reviews separately to have more coverage on the show.
For the third episode, how I would wish for Galina stop being a wuss, and making his own mind by himself and not depending on throwing his dice in order to make a choice. As for Alouette, I do understand she's in denial since her parents and dog got taken away, and then killed by the Yatterman. Unfortunately, seeing in that sort of denial shock gives raw testament how much messed up the Yattermen screwed that world. And is going to get even more depressing for our heroes to handle with each passing episode. |

Steamy Outdoor Hot Spring Trip
Making the first episode aside, to me the fourth episode has been the most depressing and heartbreaking to watch so far.
I mean the husband was promised from being pardoned to be taken away to Yatter Metropolis for a life sentence of heavy labor, if he sell out the Doronbow Gang to General Goro. Everything backfired, and it was even creepier and sadder watching his pregnant wife forcing herself a smile and cheering for her husband to be taken away anyway. Far depressing was slapping away any consolation from Leopard, and absolutely sorrowful watching Leopard forcing herself laughter as she eventually broke down in tears at the sorry state of the people she and the Gang failed to protect. |
