Higurashi Q & A

A quesion for people who played Kizuna. No spoilers .

How is the Japanese level on them. I means, it use all the necesary kanji or it have some difficilt words.

As a Japanese student I want to read them someday. I'm just in the 1st year (of 8) so I know that I will be not able to play it right now. I will wait the time needed.

You need a pretty good level of reading kanji to fully understand the story. Hell, I don't even have a very good knowledge of Japanese and I'm just rushing through it, and trying to understand what's going on...

I've always wondered why Rika performs actions in the way that she does. If suicide was the quickest "hard reset" in this scenario, then why not simply slice across the jugular vein? Instead, she literally plunges the knife into her throat, and then rips it out. This action is dramaticized to its maximum in the anime where she instead stabs her REPEATEDLY in the temple.

While it is decidedly shocking, the way she kills herself seems unnecessarily painful, especially considering that she has no interest in further affecting "doomed worlds."

But that occurs just by Rika simply slicing across the jugular. Is it supposed to seem like a VIOLENT suicide? Even if the wonder-drug were designed to be undetectable, an obvious suspicion arises BECAUSE the suicides are unnecessarily violent.

I guess it's just one of those times when it's better to be there "in person."

Rika hasn't studied anatomy, and she specifically loses memory of the things that happened shortly before each death.

You don't need to study anatomy to know that stabbing yourself over and over again a certain way would be more painful than some other method. ^^;

I think it was just dramatization, it doesn't make sense to kill yourself in such ways to me either.

It may not have been a dramatization because Shion was there in person to see it and recorded what she saw in her notebook. Or maybe we could count it as one of her hallucinations? But Dante of the Inferno explained here that it is most likely not a delusion. I think I quoted this part in this post somewhere before (I was asking how it was possible to stab at her throat AND scratch her throat out). Sorry if I'm repeating it again.

"It is plainly visible that Tomitake-san's death was caused by the contents inside the Furude family's syringe. Rika showed the effects of it herself by dying in a manner very similar to "scratching one's own throat."

Does anyone know where to get the original music of the Japanese Higurashi VN?
I own the Japanese version of Higurashi Kai (Which has the mp3s for that version) and the mangagamer versions, but not the original. However, I really love the original music a lot.

Someone uploaded the original VN music awhile ago, however he has yet to respond in regards to the original music, and I'm dying to listen to the original Higurashi BGM in their untouched quality, not b0rked by youtube videos.

If it isn't against the rules, have a download link to the original VN music or know where I can find the OST?

I hope nobody asked this yet (it would have been pretty time consuming to read through all 70 pages :s) and probably only people who played the VN will be able to answer it if at all.

In the last episode of Kai, at the very end Takano's parents are saved by Bernkastel (who is the collective conscience of all Rikas in all worlds, is that correct?) This made me wonder:

How is the connection between the worlds? The happy end we see in the final episode is one world, and the world where Tanako doesn't lose her parents has to be another one. So even if there is a happy end in the anime, there should still be many other worlds with different outcomes. If so I don't think that you could call it a happy end overall.
Or do the worlds not exist at the same time? If so and there is only one Rika how can it be that she starts at the same day in each world but still people know her already?

I know you can’t apply logic to that kind of story, but if anything is explained anywhere in the VN I’d appreciate to know.

In the 50 kakera's section of the game there were two extra pieces, the lustrous silver kakera, and kakera 52. In kakera 52, the world as you described is actually just a random kakera that Frederica (Or Bernkastel, whatever you wish to call her) modified for the fun of it. Thus saving Tanashi Miyoko's parents from the accident. The worlds coincide with each other, but the "old Rika" did not transfer to that world. It is also believed that this may be the kakera in which Saikoroshi-hen took place, because Miyo is not present.

It is also not fully known if there can be more than one Rika struggling against fate, Ryukishi hasn't stated so. But a certain Anthology book (That I can't remember, sorry) had a storyline that had two different worlds with struggling Rikas.

The anthology which Goat-kun refers to assumes that there are multiple multiverse-conscious Rika's. One of them has become depressed, and all-knowing Hannyu has that Rika take the body of the Rika in Matsuribayashi-hen (as a sort of penalty game) for the length of a week.

It's better to think of Rika's world-jumping experience as being similar to Quantum Leap. Core Rika's consciousness jumps into the body of any given world's Rika (the assumption so far is that the previous Rika has been killed by a lesser event, as suggested in Saikoroshi-hen and in Minagoroshi-hen). She initially experiences gaps in her memory as her mind catches up to the reality that she has entered (known in Quantum Leap as "the swiss-cheese effect"). Bernkastel (at least in Higurashi) acts as a hard drive consciousness, whose mentality and personality differ from Core Rika (the Rika who physically experiences each world).


The particularly odd part about the anthology arc is that there are apparently many Rika's in this situation, all trying to find happiness in the multi-verse. While this could explain (in some small way) why Hanyuu seems to duck out of Rika's presence in all of the arcs, it seems very unlikely that Hanyuu would go so far in what would be an endless struggle (ALL the Rika's can't possibly find happiness, it's a MULTI-VERSE).

Okay, that's what I meant, so it's indeed mentioned there are many Rikas at the same time. But there is one Rika that keeps her memory and replaces one of the other Rika's after another... so what is Bernkastel then? I mean wouldn't those two be the same then, if both have everything Rika experienced in their mind?

Anyway, I don't think it's possible to really get an explanation to your last statement since I guess it's also never mentioned whether Hanyu is always with "core Rika" or if she's present in all of the Rika's world. Also, maybe the other Rikas' live happily and would never have to deal with the stuff she has to deal with, maybe only if core Rika replaces them things start being like they are in the anime?

I don't have an answer to your question, but the story that everyone's referring to is Yukiwatashi-hen. It's in Volume 7 of Kataribanashi-hen.

...okay. I don't know enough Japanese to fully understand the story. But, I'm up to the part where Hanyuu first meets a young Ouka. Geez, she's just as cute as Rika. (Shino also says that Ouka is only ten-years-old. And the use the Rika sprite for her. I wonder if it's safe to say that Rika's official age is also ten?)

Just what happened to Hanyuu and Riku before that? And who and what is Ryun Oku's role?
