Dig 2x2 meter (the bigger the better) around your house and make a drawbridge. Fill in with water. Then "tadda!!", you just made your own Castle like fortification. Good as a trap as well as defense barrier fof your house, putting sharpstakes is a good recommendation.

If you make a moat all around you, then the zombies will simply fall in and die. Mutants, Aliens? Oh yeah were screwed with a moat. But even with a moat that surrounds all around us, not like we can go anywhere anyway. The zombies will possibly surround us, leaving us to our stockpiled food. Unless we have a flyable machine.

when in ancient warfare, stakes pointed TOWARDS the enemy are the only defenses the archers have against cavalry. it was ineffective against ground sergeants and dismounted knights.
pugil sticks and punji pits are said to be elementary. dig a deep hole sharpen some branches and cover them with shit or any toxic substance stick said branches into sides (or if you want a body trip, then ALL of them on the floor) cover hole with leaves hope for the best anyone know how to make a tripwire? that thing is useful even in indoors when in dark areas and blind spots.

also....
for total defense should we hole in when supplies are low.. had some plans.... MALL -create improvised barricade in main entrance -blockade any blind spots -should EMP be used, then barricade ALL maintainance access ways -as possible, the enemy should be LOWER than us. open areas like lobbies are killzones -i think LC's gonna be da person for laying IED tripwires in escape routes or if we have to fall back CHURCH -one rule: BARRICADE THE FRONT MAIN DOOR (this rule does not apply to cross shaped buildings) -if anyone grabbed an MG, make sure of creating a defilade (or was it enfilade) in the altar area. God forgive if we are fighting for our lives to mess with the altar -create spike\punji pits or a ditch full of spikes to help with the defense. -snipers head to the belfry. MANSION\ESTATE (either yours or one of your contacts, dead or alive) -fortify the main entrance. if my hunch is correct, there should be the gate, then a large fountain before the house itself. -barricade the windows on the ground floor. leave some windows with firing ports -fortify the lobby. -again place traps or IED's in the rear of the house. completely seal the garage using the vehicle parked (if possible) -snipers and some MG's are to station on the 2nd floor. to conserve ammo, let the snipers pick off the most advancing ones before the people inside the house gun them down MILITARY COMPLEX -fortify main gates using sandbags (now i know it isnt effective, but its great for a fire platform -station a vehicle mounted with an MG in the gates (if theres a tank or an armed APC, happy day) -assuming if the armory is still there, plant strategic C4 or IED charges and some AP claymores once we need to fall back -scouts and scavengers, LEAVE NOTHING UNTURNED PORT -anyone know how to operate a crane? use it to move a container to the only gateway -if we need to man a boat... then we have to

^A Prison might also be good. Especially an old fashioned one with thick outer walls, few entry points, a personal generator, nice watch-towers, and lots of strong fencing surrounding the building make this an ideal fortified location.

A moat would be a good trap, the deeper you can dig the better; eventually it will become a zombie landfill and when they start floating, the rest of them will be able to get through. The best kind of protection I can think of is a vault door in a scyscraper with enforced steel and a heliport with a chopper on the roof, in case you run out of supplies.
