Games vs. Anime, which should come first?

This will sound a little strange, but I watch the anime first and only if I dislike the main pairing (or sometimes if I want a greater backstory), only then will i play the game. Specifically, I think of many of these games as being somewhat similar to fanfiction, especially the romantic games in which you can pick your own partner.

Consequently, I watch the anime first, and if I do not like the pairing involved in the show, or I am simply interested in the back story of the other characters, I will then play the game, and try to get the Protagonist with a different character that I find more interesting...

Myself, I usually play the game first. I like to see stuff as it was originally intended to be experienced.

If the anime is based off the game to a significant extent, it would be wise to play then watch.

Exactly my sentiments. Whatever comes later -- which is usually the anime -- rarely avoids contracting Adaptation Decay, making it only a shadow of its original. Unsuspecting fans of the game who wishes to delve into the anime might find some changes alienating and unlikable, thus impacting overall enjoyment.

I like watch anime and play game parallely so I can see what is different and it can very enjoyable . But if an anime is ruined the series - chaos head is most significal example for me- I don't watch anime but play game (ahh, I watched it due to my curiosity).

Game then anime. You basically spend like 10x more time playing the game than watching the anime. If I watch the anime first, I'll be totally spoiled and lose interest in the game.

Now if it's an anime promoting (like a prequel) the game, then that's a different matter.

I generally would simply say:
What came first.

If it's a series which was made into a game -> I'll go for the series.
If it's a game which was made inte a series -> I'll go for the game.

But I tend to dislike animes that are based on a game, so if I know it was a game chances are high I won't even watch it. And I don't play any visual novels in general. The few I'd like to play for the fun of it, just because I liked the series so much are always japanese only.

I already wanted to say I don't even own an anime game, but I have the Bleach beat em up for the DS. It was on special sale for 5€ for only one day xD
