The only thing that would make it better is that they release a hard cover compilation of all the volumes with corrections the translation errors. When all 17 volumes are finished... and include the extra short stories located outside the volumes (you know... the ones I have listed many times).

The Japanese as a whole would be a bit cheaper given the size of the books and the numerous prints they have received... now a 1st edition set would set you back ~12,000yen. Right now, a set of the most recent print of Volumes 1-VI (since VI is due out in June)... I'd venture $50, but that would likely be through an online store. Again, a 1st edition set would cost a lot more. Of course, I have both the Japanese and English covered from that standpoint. ^_^

Volume 7 will be out in December. I guess we'll have to wait until next year to see the rate increase.

Hi there! I've been an on-and-off fan of Spice & Wolf for several years now after stumbling upon the series randomly. I've watched both anime seasons and have keeping up with the english novel releases (Thank you Yen Press for releasing what is the only light novel series thus far I can count on being released for now). It's definitely one of those gems of shows that aren't exactly what you'd stereotypically expect out of an anime, and is delightfully on them more mature side, in my opinion....and I don't mean in the explicit, only 18+ sense.
I have an odd question for those of you more familiar with the series though.... past the 3rd volume/episode 12/the story with Norah.... does Holo ever transform into her wolf form again? Not that I would want her transformations to constantly be used as part of the plot since that wouldn't be very creative or fun on the author's part and would grow tiresome if seen too often, But I must admit I greatly enjoy the sense of awe I get from seeing/imagining Holo in her wolf state, not all too unlike what I get from watching Princess Mononoke or playing the video game Okami. If you can't already tell, wolves are among my favorite animals, and I will concede that it was the word "wolf" in the title of the series that caused it to catch my eye. Still, even if she doesn't ever again, it won't stop me reading since it won't change the fact she is a wolf. And I've come to adore Holo and Lawrence too much already to just stop following their tale. It's just something I've been wondering. |

Oh everyone... good news! My copy of Volume 6 should be here soon (today or tomorrow)!
The bad news is that I won't get to read it right off because of my heavy work schedule.

Even if Yen Press explodes in flames later - they'll always have a fond spot in me for having handled the manga and light novel series of S&W so well.
Now if I could just get them to produce a complete set of ARIA as the gods intended.

Hypothetically.... so far Yen seems to be constraining itself and making good moves. BUT ..... given the long trail of "dead bodies" and "fatally wounded but not quite dead" in the manga-to-english industry I just know better than to dance and frolic carefree in the light of Yen

Happy day! Volume 6 is here! Good news is I get to evaluate the English version. The bad news... another tail-fail on the cover... and something in her hand that is supposed to be water... I hope.
