Manga Hoshi no Samidare/Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is getting an anime adaptation. Coming Summer 2022.

Synopsis

One day, college student Yuuhi Amamiya is approached by talking lizard Sir Noi Crezant. Crezant immediately launches into a fantastical story: the powerful mage Animus intends to destroy the earth with his biscuit hammer, a huge contraption looming high in earth’s orbit. Earth’s only hope lies with the princess and her Beast Knights, whose task is to protect the princess and defeat Animus.

Yuuhi is chosen as the Lizard Beast Knight, and despite his misgivings, is quickly forced to defend himself from a golem created by the mage. He is saved by his neighbor, the princess Asahina Samidare, and swears loyalty to her. However, the princess does not intend to save the earth at all. She lets Yuuhi in on her real motivations: to prevent Animus from destroying the earth, only to then annihilate the planet by her own hand. The pair continue to fight off attacks by Animus’s golems while the remaining Beast Knights are slowly being gathered and learning to use their powers. But Yuuhi will have to decide for himself whether to go along with Asahina’s plans, whom he is getting close with, or to save the earth. In the process, he must also confront his true self, and determine where his loyalties truly lie.

....................... old manga but great story. would love to see the whole series done but man..... if this is going to be animated. I would loved for it to have lots of episodes to shine.

About time of of Mizukami's epics got an adaptation, though I would have preferred Spirit Circle if given the choice. There were many, many rumors of a Gainax adaptation back in the day - obviously that won't happen now but the choice of studio will be very interesting here. It really should be Bones if you ask me - they're the ones who can do justice to Mizukami's sense of style.

It really feels like this announcement is a decade too late. Better now than never, I guess.

Mizukami's works are gems of the manga medium and any adaptation deserves to be treated with care. Despite my disillusionment with the industry, I hope whichever studio is tasked to animate this can manage the project properly.

It's hard for me to imagine anyone but Bones really getting his aesthetic. Now watch it be J.C. Staff full CGI.

According to the announcement, Nobuaki Nakanishi (Koihime Musō, Mahōjin Guru Guru, Kasimasi - Girl Meets Girl) is directing the anime, but no studio has been announced. Original author Mizukami is credited for series composition, alongside Yūichirō Momose (My First Girlfriend is a Gal, My Sister, My Writer, Infinite Dendrogram, So I'm a Spider, So What?).

Nakanishi is also working on Kono Healer, Mendokusa this spring.

Nothing too exciting in the resume there. Or hints as to the studio - he's worked all over (but not at Bones that I can see). Doga Kobo is on there - I can think of worse fits than that.

Pleasantly surprised by this announcement, but I'm kind of afraid that this is going to be an one cour rush job.

Anyone else check the date just to make sure it wasn't April 1st? No? Just me?

Well, I do remember this manga as always falling under the "Deserves an anime but never got one" category... the only problem, as pointed out, is that is feels like it's a decade too late. Especially since the manga has long since ended serialization.

Still, we are getting an adaptation... Now whether it does justice or fails remains to be seen.

They made an Haikara-san ga Tooru! movie series a few years ago, a Let's Make a Mug Too split 2-cour anime adaptation last year and will be animating Love All Play (alongside OLM) this spring.

Not as good as Spirit Circle, but any full-fledged manga by the Water God is a classic.

I was hoping Planet With, despite being Mizukami's weakest work (the anime, at least), would pave the way for adaptations of his past works... and it's finally happening!

Starting with Samidare makes sense. Spirit Circle will follow... hopefully. Wouldn't mind Sengoku Youko either.

Nippon Animation, Nobuaki directing - not sure what to make of that. Very little to go on as to what they might do with a supremely dense and substantial classic like this. It's good enough that even with just competence it could be near-great as an anime (if it got two cours), but damn, I sure would have liked to have seen it in the hands of an A-list director at Bones or I.G./Wit.

This may be a weird crossover, but I think someone just used a behelit and made the biggest sacrifice to get Samidare animated, now only lets hope for a decent Studio with enough passion and love and at least 24 episodes so Samidare get the adaptation she deserves, and who knows? If is successful enough we can get an OVA/movie of Walking the Void.
