Ayashi no Ceres, seriously it rocks. Romance surrounded by a legitimatly deep plot, great characters and their developement, plus its a "dark" setting but the comedy keeps it from drowning you out of interest. Plus one of the most interesting endings i've ever seen, and i've seen my share of anime.

Princess Mononoke has a (subplot) love story involving a girl who was raised by forest gods. It's not exactly what you are seeking, and the love story is subdued and not the most important part of the story, but the film itself is so good that it is worth mentioning.

Going to second Kannagi.
I'm also going to second Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity. Yeah, there's no way around the fact it's a low budget harem flick, but it's also seriously cute and the writers actually bothered to write a decent plot around the supernatural elements rather than using them as a simple gimmick. (Although if you're willing to let romance be limited to subplots with side characters and just want something with an attractive supernatural female lead, I'd tend to recommend Wagaya no Oinari-sama. Just don't take episode 1 as indicative of what you're in for.) |
