I'm really impressed by this, it's a gigantic technical leap that the series always desperately needed. Black & White were a start but they were nowhere near this level. A third-person view instead of an overhead/fixed camera view is very different too.

I'll be choosing Froakie as my starter, because noone seems to like him and he's the least cutesy one.

Just judging from the two legendaries at this point I'll probably get Y version since I like that one more. Though that's due to change.

So yeah, dibs on Fennekin, since in my heart, it's saying that they'll use the legend of Ifrit for its evolutions. Also, according to speculations: Based on the attacks the starters used on their opponents (Night Slash, Psywave, Close Combat), all 3 starters may become dual types, Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Fighting. Also, like Tokkan said, the legendaries are most-likely based on dimensional axes.

Wasn't Infernape pretty good?

That's generation 4. I imagine he was referring to the generation 5 starters; Serperior, Emboar and Samurott.

This is probably my favorite artwork so far:

Spoiler for Pokemon Y:

Need more of this awesomeness.~

I dunno, both legendaries look pretty sick. The starters are meh, and I'll have to see what they evolve into before deciding.

Isn't Blaziken one as well? That guy was pretty broken back when I was still playing pokemon online.

That legendary pokemon is pretty cool. I still think its counter part is pretty bland though... it's like a normal pokemon with more fancy colors.

Again, that's going back even further in Generations. Gen V starters were god awful. And he was only broken in Gen V when they gave him Dream World Speed Boost.

Starters other than the speedy Fire/Fighting from previoius Gens should be reworked to make them competitively viable. OU maybe? Hahaha. XD

Blaziken was the precursor of fire/fighting starters. Blaze Kick pretty much made him the Poké Chuck Norris.

The Water/Steel and Swampert are already OU (or used to be). I'd be cool with just UU level of viability. Charizard, Venusaur, pre-Dream World Blaziken, Sceptile, Feraligatr, and maybe Blastoise are all high enough in UU that they can be used in OU without too much detriment. At least, they used to be, not sure if they still are post Dream World. But I wouldn't even use the Gen V starters in UU.

Well, with these new guys coming, the Poké Prez Ishihara said that there will be 700+ pokémon in total. Let's hope they hit an even number this time.

Well, there were already 649 in Black/White. I'd hope if they were doing a new generation they'd have more than 50 new Pokemon.

Wow ! I'm really amazed by this new. My starter will be definitely Fennekin and I'll buy Pokemon Y.

I`ll wait for the evolutions before making my final judgement, but I`m with Mokoko,
Feunnec definitely is favorite.(Since I`m getting the French version, better get used to the names right away.)

I'm curious how different the versions are going to be. Gen I through Gen IV it was just the Pokemon, but Gen V and Gen V.2 gave each unique areas that could actually have an impact. I'm not sure which method I prefer between the two.

Yeah, I don't think dimensional axis (my first thought) would make sense because Z is depth, isn't it? If it was a reference to 3 dimensions just X and Y doesn't really work...

You do realize that for every generation since the beginning there's been a separately released 3rd version that supposedly "combines" the two previous ones? (Though gen. 5 didn't. It was more of a continuation than an alternative.)

I can already speculate there's likely going to be a third one a while after called "Z version". So I have to agree the naming is a reference for this being the first main Pokemon titles to fully enter the 3D plane.
