I agree that the focus of this episode is indeed not about the relation with Miu and Shingo, but rather lies with the rest of the cast. Sana finally accepted the facts after the previous episode and she is handling the relation very well.
The schoolmerger issue from the previous episode did end up being not even that important at all though.
The pacing has increased in this episode , because there are no longer any real issues left. (except for 1)

Now I will approach any Manglobe adaptation with caution, recently they f**ked up TWGOK and now they troll me with this Miu ending D= seriously even with all the hints out there I couldn't help but ignore them in front of the fact Airi seemed to be the main heroine, and the story would inevitably change back to Airi... great troll Manglobe, great ＿|￣|○
with this I learned my lesson and I also blame my own naivety for falling in this troll

Now all thats left is to just sit and enjoy Miu ending ( since I also like her =~) but with a bitter taste in my mouth and it'll be hard to remember this series as something different from a troll from Manglobe i.i

I know this is off topic but GIVE ME A REASON with what's wrong with the anime of TWGOK. There are a lot people even saying some parts of the anime are better than the manga.

Yutsuki's the real trick because she's wearing a wig (she has purple short hair normally) and she's not really in the anime (and was only in the PSP game); the "hint" is the split hair on the top, but won't help any anime-only viewers.

I haven't read that post untill now, but that's indeed Yutsuki. That longer hair is probably related to the climax of her story when she had long hair during the scene (i am not sure if it was a wig or some kind of hairextenions though, but the longer hair during that scene has the same color as her natural color) Also the length of her hair in that madoka spoof image is roughly the same as in the mentioned scene.

the horrible character desings (although it did got better at the second season), how Keima was portrayed( some liked, some not go over there to see =~) and some other minor events and as for better parts I agree, like Kanon show or Kusonoki arc, but it's not like I totally hated, its just it could have been better, much better

I'm going to have to watch this again later because I have no idea how I feel about it. To say that this wasn't what I had expected in *this* episode would be a bit of understatement and at the same time not completely accurate. I really liked part of the episode, especially where the other characters finally spoke out about themselves and their feelings, Sana gets super props from me, and when Miu and Shingo were being cute. That was a plus and I expected that. I had also expected the school merger to be the plot for these last two episodes while the above happened in the background/foreground along with some fluffy development for Miu/Shingo, but that didn't happen... (There was a solid line of development shown by our more neglected characters, another plus.) In the end the episode was simultaneously expected/predictable and unexpected/unpredictable, which is good.

So that was me being largely objective...

...I'll preface this with *purely opinion* but I finished the episode with a "What?" stuck in my head, and similar expression on my face. The episode felt so much more about every other character than Shingo, Miu, and their relationship, that I was *underwhelmed* by the implied ending. And yet, underwhelm(ed)ing isn't the right word for it. It was beautifully enacted, so props for an excellent execution, but I felt like I missed an episode or three, somewhere between Episode 10 & 11. It was only one episode ago that we broke Sana's heart with a hug/confession that took four episode to reach, and now that ending?

I think I'm just being picky.

This took me half an hour to write.

Still listening to the love counseling bit. Is it just me or they sound extremely sleepy this week? The beginning skit hardly get me at all, well it's not even that funny imo. I guess when it's near Christmas, nobody is willing to work lol.

Gotta admit that I love Ono's normal voice rather than her CV for Airi though, same with Yoshida (Sana) as well.

So far, I still love nuko 4 (ft Sakuno) best. the pace is much slower than 6, but the interaction and scenario is way better and more hilarious.

Btw, what is the song that plays after the beginning skit? I'd the name please.

Apart from To Heart 2's commentary track, this is my first time to listen to an anime-related radio, really So I have no idea how Yoshida sounded in OreTsuba lol, But I'm actually quite suprised by her voice, it's really soft, contrast to the sharp and harsh image of Sana, so I like her speaking voice better.

I think that I won't be able to fully process everything that happened in this episode until I watch it again, but it's totally clear why this episode was called "Mashiro-iro Symphony".

Probably the most important thing was the scene with Sana right in the middle of the episode, where Sana tells Shingo that if he ever gets dumped, he could go out with her. His answer is of course what we'd expect: he'd never go out with her on the rebound, as that'd be unfair to her. But then that most important line: "That's just the sort of guy you are." What a perfect way to tie things back to the resolution of Airi's plot 5 episodes earlier. You'll note of course that Airi's "tsuntsun" side came back a bit in this episode whenever topic of love and Shingo came up. This all of course came up again at the playground scene at the end with Airi's reflection about her relationship with Shingo, and she comes to the realization: "I'll definitely never fall in love [again?]." Is it true or not? Who knows... but from the perspective of these two girls (and to a larger extent, four girls) spending this Christmas "alone" (together) after the first guy they liked fell in love with someone else, that's what it feels like.

I have to say that entire scene was really well done (nicely animated, and ties back perfectly to the opening of episode 1), but if there was ever a sign screaming "buy the game!!!!", this was it.

Now as for Shingo and Miu... I actually laughed a lot. It was pretty well done. It's that feeling where if you have one thing in your mind, all of a sudden everywhere you look and everything you do somehow reminds you of that thing. This episode really captured that feeling perfectly, as it was like everywhere Shingo went he was reminded of that thing he wants to do now that he has a girlfriend. I laughed particularly at the "mating" conversation with Sana and Airi, and how it came up again with Miu's mom ("What, you're not mating yet?" ). All of the Miu and Shingo romantic scenes were soooo awkward, which is of course on purpose. ("Oh my god she touched my hand!!!" ) That ending scene with the two cat plushies was so cheesy that I laughed so much... but all in all it was well done. It totally captures that awkwardness of a "first crush"/"first girlfriend"; I was squirming the whole time, but it was great. I said from the get-go that the game was all about over-the-top sugary-sweet romance, so I'm glad they captured a little bit of that for the anime.

A few other things I noticed:

- At the beginning of the episode, they comment about how they've setup a system now to take care of the animals at the club with everyone taking turns. It shows that they're all depending on each other enough now such that neither Miu nor Shingo feel like they have to be there. So that's progress in another sense.

- The "note-taking" scene in the classroom reinforces just how "matter of factly" Shingo puts others first, but of course Airi is trying to protect Sana a little bit from that, since she figures that'll just make things worse. (People also noticed how since Episode 7 Airi had sort of been keeping her distance from Shingo as well... hmm... ) Sana of course makes her own decision that she'll spend time with him anyway, even taking him out shopping to buy a Christmas present for Miu. That takes some inner strength.

- I also liked the "Miu-sensei" joke, which came home to roost when Miu's mother basically pulled the same joke. Like mother like daughter... And also "tomorrow evening my Mom won't be home, so let's do it a lot until night falls"... like I said before, when sex is on the mind... Yuiko: "Tonight's first lesson will be how to get a girl pregnant..." Shingo: "Eh?!" Miu: "I'll be the one to teach him that!" Shingo: "EHH?!?"

- The mothers looking out for their daughters scene was also pretty important, as both Yuiko and Ranka have had to let their daughters go to some extent, while still trying their best to protect them from afar. It's an interesting parallel because both Airi and Miu don't get along with their mothers for somewhat-similar reasons, and of course both mothers are also old friends. I guess they're trying to say that being a parent is hard, but protecting your children from arm's length is what you do... even if your children may not see or appreciate that at the time.

- Another important comment from Sana in this episode is the obvious point that we've noticed too: Shingo is pretty good at noticing things when it comes to others, but horrible when it involves himself. But it also comes with Sana's admission that Shingo actually is a guy worthy of being with Miu. Shingo realizes that means a lot coming from her. Sana's introspection on the swingset, and her comment about her imagined phone call with Shingo was both tragic and beautiful. When Sana acted out Shingo's imagined reaction, note particularly Airi's own reaction -- like something clutched at her chest. "It's better to have loved and lost" after all.

Incidentally, the pass case Shingo buys for Miu is indeed the same as in the game, and you can recognize the "Palette" name on it (original game maker).

I also noticed that, when Shingo meets Miu after work and she forgot her gloves, he gave her one of his gloves to put on her left hand, while they each went gloveless for the hands they were holding. Tiny little touch, but that's Shingo's brand of thoughtfulness.


Next Episode: The fate of the school merger. Everything comes full circle before the final curtain falls.


Edit: Oh yeah and also, the kiss scene reminds me so much of Toradora, though that one was a tiny bit better executed IMO.

I couldn't watch this episode all in one go lol. The amount of lovey-dovey and me squeaking like a girl nearly choked me to death several time watching this. Well, just as we expected, Shin go and Miu get on and on with their relationship and the others sort out their stuff as well.

As much as I like the love-dovey between Miu and Shingo, I love how the rest of the girls got together and shared their Christmas Eve, it was melancholic yet simply pretty. I love it when Airi said she'll be single for the rest of her life, the other 3 also follow her, it's was a really nice friendship that was portrayed in this ep.

Also, I, for the first time, felt that Sana was cute, her dere for Shingo the 1st time in the club room asking if Shingo got dumped by Miu, she would be his girlfriend was very, very cute imo.

Well, Imma wait for sub to understand more, but for now I will say, the impact from friendship relations really struck me more rather than the romance aspect of Mashiro-iro Symphony.

PS: is it just me or this episode feels really QUALITY? The way they handled the blushing was abit too much imo, production wise.

Yeah, there were a number of scenes in this episode that will probably be cleaned-up a bit for the Blu-Rays; the drawings felt a bit rushed and off-model in some places. Somehow it seems this problem is not so uncommon with penultimate episodes; I expect next episode to be a bit better since it's the final episode so probably animated by the main team. (This episode was produced by NOMAD, like a few others so far.)

There was a decent(good) production investment in this show, it seems. Most shows start showing QUALITY by the third episode.
