Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn)

It seems the manga Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai/We Never Learn is getting an anime. There's a domain registered and anime twitter account opened this month.

Plot
Quote:
His late father always said that a useless man should strive to be useful, so to that end, third-year high school student Nariyuki Yuiga dedicated himself to becoming a high-achieving student in his school, despite his history of poor grades. In order to give his destitute family a better life, his ultimate goal is to obtain the special VIP nomination, a prestigious scholarship covering all future university tuition fees. Although Nariyuki could feasibly be a shoe-in for the nomination, he is constantly overshadowed by classmates Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi in mathematics and literature, respectively.

To his delight, Nariyuki receives the nomination, but there's a catch: he has to tutor his two star classmates, who are each hopelessly mediocre at the otherís subject of expertise! To make matters worse, the subjects they are horrible at are the same subjects they want to pursue for their future. As the time to submit university applications draws nearer, Nariyuki must find an effective tutoring method for the girls before itís too late.

I like the manga for the most part, but I have this nagging feeling that this won't translate that well into anime format. It feels like it'll be hella mediocre if I'm being honest.

Then again, I had the same feeling about Nisekoi's anime which ended up greatly defying my expectations and was a pretty solid adaptation for the most part. (Being objective here and trying not to let my dislike of the manga's ending influence my opinion on it).

Then again, this is a WSJ series and pretty much all Jump series that get animated never flop in the conventional sense of the word. Even the mediocre or arguably bad adaptations end up becoming successful in their own right. So maybe I'm being paranoid and overthinking this.

Nisekoi's "golden age" was the first 50 chapters. Even if I absolutely despise how slowly but surely it lost my interest thereafter, the first season did the right thing and only skipped the "unimportant", stand alone chapters, so it was a good adaptation. Then they gave up in the second season, because they realized it doesn't go anywhere, meaning every waifu got their episode(s), rather than keeping only the important stuff.

BokuBen is indeed similar, but since there aren't any keys and a locket, potentially the anime could skip way more chapters and only keep the "better ones". All of the two-parters, plus selected ones could give it a nice enough flow IMO.

I rather have Shaft Kaguya than Shaft BokuBen. Both is not an option IMO.
My pick is Lerche.

Mixed feelings are mixed.

On the one hand, it's pretty much the same harem rom com with an infuriatingly dense male lead.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever encountered a harem rom com where all the girls are so endearing.

What has me skeptical about this series getting animated is that chapters follow a weekly episodic format which focuses on one girl at a time and connecting chapters don't usually follow sequentially.

Spoiler for Detailed example of why I'm skeptical. (Don't open if you don't read the manga):

Basically, my skepticism is attributed mostly to the fact that chapters/plots are disjointed and don't follow a linear pattern.

Which is funny because KanaHana did voice some similar tallflat characters in the past, like Aoi Futaba from Cat Planet Cuties.

I think it could work, they just have to avoid doing another Hajimete no gal (like skipping lots of chapters and all the character development).

Between Hayamin and HanaKana, I prefer the latter as a seiyuu, but I never really got the impression from Fumino that it's a HanaKana role, unlike with Onodera. Maybe early Fumino resembled her a bit, but now she is a completely different character.

This is going to have a really bad reception since is extremely similar to Nisekoi, filled with predictable, cliche situations and obvious outcomes. Only the girls are worth the time but that's not saying much when anyone can guess what's going to happen at the end of the day.

I'm curious on how are they going to adapt this, maybe as other people said skipping information or chapters that do not have too much relevance, that way the adaptation can feel more "linear" since the manga usually jumps from one situation to another just to go back to that initial situation some chapters later and repeat. Nisekoi's adaptation was pretty good at the beginning so I guess this one is going to be good too despite how mediocre is the manga.

I agree this won't work well specifically because it's likely to focus on the girls that aren't carrying the manga afaik.
It doesn't helps said girls are more entertaining while the author slaps the reader's face with the obvious winner.

I'm well aware that HanaKana is versatile, Seryu from Akame ga KILL! or Hana from Prison School also comes to my mind. However, she is still not the seiyuu I would consider for Fumino. Funnily enough, stoic HanaKana would be a great Rizu IMO. But I doubt we will hear anyone from the main Nisekoi cast as main BokuBen girl.
