New anime from ARMS based on Okamoto Lynn's (Elfen Lied) manga. Staff is middling and I have mixed feelings about Elfen Lied, but at least this doesn't look like it came off the assembly line.

Hmm ... here is more of the summary from Enzo's link....

Quote:
The original manga revolves around high school boy Ryōta Murakami, who cannot forget his female childhood friend whom he let die in an accident. Feeling that he must fulfill their promise of proving the existence of aliens, he has continuously looked up at the sky as a member of the astronomy club. One day, a girl named Neko Kuroha who looks exactly like his childhood friend appears as a transfer student. It turns out that she is a magic-user that has run away from a research lab.

Kenichi Imaizumi (Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Student Council's Discretion Level 2) is directing the anime off scripts by Yukinori Kitajima (428 ~Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de~, Senran Kagura, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Hamatora). Hiroaki Tori (episode animation director on Gatchaman Crowds, Kimikiss pure rouge) is serving as character designer and chief animation director.

Okamoto began the manga in Young Jump in 2011. Shueisha released the sixth compiled volume of the manga on September 19.
Also - here is a link to the already existing manga thread.

It's not based on Elfen Lied, Genji; it's just written by the same author.

Oddly this is the second manga I've encountered this month with pretty much the same premise. And they both started in 2011, so it's unlikely the authors are copying each other.

It's actually pretty different from that manga. If the summaries are a bit more detailed you'd see that the 2 stories have almost nothing to do with each other except childhood friend reappearing again. Ie, the childhood friend is the trigger for the story to start, but they're completely different stories altogether.

It's quite good, something you could expect from Okamoto Lynn but I still rate Elfen Lied higher if a dark story is what you're looking for, the girls are very well drawn, though.

One piece serafuku dress + zettai ryouiki, Elfen Lied's authour, and supposed childhood friend seemingly back from the dead? Oh yeah, this sounds like MY kind of anime.

ARMS has the potential to deliver good looking series, they just need good people to do the screenwriting and directing.

Though it did failed last time when they invited the pair who did SnW.....somehow

I read a bit of the manga at the store, it sounded amazing, it's by the author of Elfen Lied which I heard it was amazing so I'll watch it because the premise looked like my thing.

I dropped the manga when the romcom harem bs became too intrusive. The characters were pretty bland too.

I think it could have been a fairly interesting story but the author definitely dropped the ball. I doubt I'll be watching the series.

The latest chapter is 83, and I read some summaries so I have an idea of what happens. It doesn't change my opinion of the overall manga so I won't be picking it back any time soon.

I too dropped the manga, though not for the same reasons. I just couldn't take the lack of hope anymore.

This has promising misery in it.

I am really looking forward to this spring, too many favorites getting animated!!

Edit: Anime is gonna start airing in April of 2014.
