And the title of the manga is, and has always been, Mahou Sensei Negima. Teacher's right there in the middle.

It's always annoying when the plot takes a turn that tries to make us believe Negi is fated to become a carbon copy of Nagi, when they clearly are so different.

Even though I'm still worried regarding how akamatsu might wrap the ending of Negima, I must say this last chapter hit a weak spot on my side

I believe the time skip was even harsher than actually showing the whole time going fastforward. The way how Asuna discovered how Ayaka was waiting for her was soul crushing (albeit a little convenient how Ayaka's descendant didn't have trouble to explain such details to a "stranger").
Moreso when Asuna digged the time capsule and realizing how things went on while she was asleep and now all alone.

However, like some people had speculated and commented before, Chao being present here doesn't bode too well with the possible outcome of the series: if they make Asuna jumping back in time, it will have a severe effect to the whole drama we got with her sealing (which still was shrouded in mystery, without much explanations regarding the process, consequences and implications, aside of "saving the world, and potentially losing her "fake" persona").

A compromise for that could be something like a "half" jump. At least not something that would allow her to return exactly when she left (which could potentially be explained that her return might distord the future to an extreme way). Let's say... 50 years ahead? Or perhaps at the moment Negi is supposed to be missing?

Genshiken did a few years later. The original manga ended with the graduation of Sashara and Saki and covered the four years the two of them were at college and members of the Genshiken club. Later, Kio-sensei did a 1-chapter special to show the club carrying on after Sasahara and Saki were gone. Then a year later, it was decided that a "next generation" Genshiken (Genshiken Niadame) would be done on a limited basis, to create enough chapters to fill a volume, which would then become the 10th volume in the Genshiken series. A few months into this, the decision was made to make the series permanent, so now we have volume 11 with materials for volume 12 being published.

So while rare, it can happen, providing (1) the manga-ka is willing, (2) the publisher is willing, and (3) the fans are willing. ^_^

As to a sequel, frankly, I don't think I'd mind seeing Negima! shift to J-Comi, where Akamatsu-sensei could have an easier work schedule and put out a quality product. My concern would be getting a GOOD English translation, and getting this eventually in book form.

He has a grave and declared death, but the thing Asuna checked earlier in the chapter said he went missing, so it's exactly the same situation as Nagi. He got Lifemaker'd probably.

Anyway, I think that the gravestone is empty because they couldn't find his body = MIA
(MIA =/= dead)
Maybe he couldn't return because he lost his memory after the fight?
Or because a lot of people start question Nagi youth so he fake his death?
Or the writer is just plain lazy and just want to end the manga?

So basically it's Akamatsu himself that wants to end Negima, right? If that were true, at least that ease my worries of this getting axed as one of the reason why he ended this too abruptly.

There was no reason to worry about it being canned for external reasons: no publisher in their right mind would deliberately cancel a series that sell extremely well for its vintage without being part of the "big 3 shounen" (and that is before factoring the LE big score).

That said, it is very likely that his editor and publisher would pressure him to continue the series (similarly to what they did with Love Hina) unless there are definite points that made them give up: staunch position from Akamatsu, another project related to negima etc... few possibilities exist.
