By spinoff I think he just means the manga version. Seems to be following the basic plot (then again all I know about the plot is: twintail-phile turns into girl, fights monsters)

Twintails and pigtails are generally the same, some consider pigtails to be done with shorter hair and twintails done with longer hair.
