So far, I'm really liking this volume, even more so than the first volume of Meiyaku no Leviathan.
The MC is more to my taste, compared to Hal and Godou, and Shiori is just adorable. Also: Spoiler for Quote:

So... the things that are different in their world, as I understand it (zzhk's gonna correct me on one or all of these, I'm sure):
1) Obviously and most importantly, Sacred Beasts began to appear around the world, in the 19th century. That's well before World War III, and other important global events. 2) The usage of aircraft around the world. Sure, they might be still used for transport (otherwise, Shiori might have taken a boat ride to and from Rome during her "captivity"), but as for military purposes like attack craft... they're completely outclassed by Legions and by various flying retainer beasts. There's also the added danger in the skies when the other side can control weather patterns through meteorological decrees. 3) Speaking of Legions, forget about fielding thousands of soldiers in the battlefield and the accompanying logistics nightmare, sending one Chevalier (or Returnee) can change the course of a battle easily. Not to mention that you only need to replenish artificial ectoplasmic fluid reserves (man-made spooky juice?) and the material needs of only one person. 4) Legions only take considerable damage by fighting other Legions or mystical opponents of the same caliber, with modern arms doing nil to scratch damage on them. Doesn't matter if tanks pelt them with shells, helicopters and fighter jets bomb them with missiles or battleships hit them with cannons, only another Legion can negate a Legion's innate barriers (AT fields?). Why fake?
Is there any place where one could check the RAWs or a Wikia of sorts where one could check more about the Returnees? EDIT: Through a little Google search, I've found these: Spoiler:

He did manage to bend the sword to his will, and Akigase Rikka thinks he's the real deal. Masatsugu does try to correct her but... oh well. Completely spoilery stuff you have there, but oh well. Spoiler for top pic:

That's why I put the images in spoiler tags
It's quite rare of me to actually read LNs (since I usually spend most of my free time writing my own original story), but somehow the Returnees plot element, BUNBUN's art-style and the sexy female main trio have sold me for now EDIT: Finally! After a whole day of catching up, I'm finally up-to-date, with only the last part of the last chapter of Vol01, and it's Epilogue, left to read... When zzhk gets to translate them Last edited by RDNexus; 2016-07-16 at 17:14. |

I doubt he is Subutai. According to Masatsugu, his past lord is either incapable or jealous of him. That description does not fit the profile of Genghis Khan, who is certainly capable and has good relationship with Subutai (in fact, the wiki mentions that it is quite rare for a commoner like Subutai to get such a high position at that time). Also, I think it is unlikely that the answer to Masatsugu's identity will be this straightforward, considering all the misleading hints the author gave us about King of the End in Campione. |

I'll stand by zzhk's comment of comparing this novel to "Ravages of Time"... no, wait, I mean Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Shiori is Liu Bei, who rises up from being a nobody/"caged" Imperial Princess and gathers allies around her. Masatsugu is Guan Yu, a warrior whose fate ends up being entwined around Shiori and pledges his blade to her. (I guess Hatsune has Zhang Fei's spot? ) And personally, I'd prefer if zzhk doesn't spoil Masatsugu's real identity, even if he knew. It makes discussion more lively with all the mass guesspeculating. For now, let's just imagine Masatsugu as some sort of blood-sucking Hijikata Toshizo. |
