So hard to keep track of new releases of World Embryo since most manga sites don't list it anymore.

Chapter 54 clearly suggests that the end of the manga is approaching....

Spoiler for Chapter 54:

Ende's cage starts to expand into a bigger radius to cover the entire city, but Nene stands in her way pleading to stop.

Ende asks for Nene's real name, and in spite of self-doubts, Nenee replies back that she's Papa's Neene.

Ende searches in her database memory for Nenee's log, and when her search finds no matches she overwrites her memory with Neene's new data and classifies the latter as an enemy that has to be destroyed.

Ende programs missiles that aim straight to Neene, so she flies to the city to evade them. Realizing the danger the city is in, Neene uses her programming to turn the missiles into fluffy, soft pillows. (That's no joke, guys! )

Events happen before Neene goes to confront Ende face-to-face one more time:
Shiro Karasawa is not completely dead. His real body or his physical remains were destroyed, but a part of his memory managed to upload itself to a terminal but won't last long.

The Shiro memory pleads to Neene to stop Ende, because with his physical self now completely gone Ende no longer has a master and is only matter of time before Ende goes total rampage encasing the whole town within her cage, and then setting it up ablaze in a sea of fire.

Jinki-mode Riku stealthily approaches from behind to deliver the killing blow to the last remnants of Shiro, but not before Neene stops him.

The Shiro memory attempts to reason with him that Neene's the only one needed to stop Ende, but the boy quickly lashes out that all this mess was done due to Shiro's insane machinations.
Riku furiously barks back that there's no need for Neene to confront Ende, because he doesn't want to lose her. Both will leave the battlefield and let F.L.A.G. and the Jinki users to handle Ende. Riku adds up that by believing in their allies, then they (FLAG and the Jinki users) will find a solution to the Ende problem.

However, Shiro immediately slaps reality into Riku that the boy himself is a hypocrite because all this time along Riku has made use of his "allies" with his lies while never believing in them at all, and now the boy is deluding Neene to believe in the people when he himself (Riku) is not able to trust or believe in others.

Neene embraces her "Papa" and tells him that she likes and loves him, as well as the town they live in, Rena, her Mama, and the rest of all the people. At this show of affection, Riku bursts in tears and crying let's slip to Neene that he doesn't want to lose her again, his Amane-chan.

Upon hearing Riku calling that name, Neene's taken a little aback and promises him that she'll return to him to have dinner all together, then Neene flies off to confront Ende once again.

Realizing that Neene might possibly have lied to him due to his attachment with Amane, Riku snaps.

Once again in Ende's cage, Neene eventually cries because she's starting to realize that all this time Rikus' feelings were not directed toward her but to Amane, which makes Neene to question if her "Papa" has truly loved her all this time together. Ende at first looks confused witnessing Neene crying, and then her gesture turns to that one of surprise watching a "light" opening up her cage and descending onto Neene....

Back with Riku, Rena has arrived and sees Riku who with his jinki blade have sliced through the terminal into which Karasawa's last memory was uploaded, destroying the man forever.

Riku powers down to his human form all battered-up and heartbroken just as a black Kanshu has been standing behind him all the time. Acting upon instinct, Rena springs to a life/death dash, able to slice the Kanshu before it has any chance to kill Riku. However, moments before she kills the Kanshu, it stands motionless looking directly into her eyes which stirs within Rena strange feelings and a vague memory. As the Kanshu falls having put no resistance at all to dodge Rena's blade, it speaks her name.

At the top of a building, Takao's surmising the destruction caused to the city and informs that the giant girl just disappeared without trace, however, the memory lapse is not working because the civilians' memories have not been erased, and all recall perfectly the sightings about the giant.

The speaker at the end of the line informs to Takao that the "Embryo" is coming to erase everything. Just then, all the Jinki cores that Takao has collected from his hunts begin to resonate, and he realizes that his Julie wants to fight alongside him too. Takao holds up all his Jinki cores, promising that he'll be the One to put an end to all of this....

Stopped reading this a while back because the protagonist was incredibly selfish, and now that chapter's spoilers calls him out on it. He's got some serious issues.

I'm still enjoying the series and I'm happy that Riku has gotten a lot of development lately. But he really needs to talk to Rena again, he's leaving her out a lot now and they basically swore to be partners together.

I read few comments in this thread, regarding Riku behavior, so I'm bit turn off.

The theme for this series seem to be atonement.

Riku's lies got Neene and that other girl killed, and now he's trying to atone and stop lying.

Rena's actions led to the death of her parent's who became kamogari, and she's trying to atone.

Shirou's actions...well caused everything, and his final attempt at atonement was preventing those two from drowning in their own guilt.

Takao is trying to atone for his mother and coffin princess death.

Riku is improving, by leaps and bounds, but it's a slow process nonetheless. He's still suffering from seeing first hand the results of his actions, but at least now he won't cross certain lines to chase after Amane. Rena is becoming more emotionally open with Riku.

And you can't compare this series to pokemon, digimon, or any other shounen, since it's a seinen.

Thanks for the summary and breakdown and of course I'm not comparing this series to those 2, but I was using those 2 to compare each other as an example for this.

I had to scratch my head at zombies. But the whole functioning well enough masked as humans was a nice twist and making it the result of Kanshuu "biology" patched up any potential holes. Seeing a group taking an active role in terms of dealing with the rebound was also nice. A slew of other dimensions to the infected crisis opened up as a result (rebound, volunteers, indifferent jinki holders, etc.). tl;dr Series is getting pretty damn awesome even when prior events were pretty damn awesome too.
