The manga is set with Kagura in High School, after the events of the anime. Yomi is her biggest enemy. The manga provides some segments looking back into Kaguras and Yomis past. The anime is about this events so far, but a lot more into detail.

I dont think that the whole anime is a prequel. Maybe around half of the show, the main character of the manga is introduced. Or maybe i hope so.

If the radio interview still stands... then it's definitely a prequel and the anime story wouldn't overlap with the manga. So, other main character from the manga might be introduced if they happen to meet before the manga time line start.

Of course the no planned plot overlap could also mean that the anime could take a different route from the manga, so that when the anime ends it can't connect directly to the manga.

Ok like after watching ep 4 and 3 and then recalling the previous 2 along with their flash back, I AM GOING CRAZY WANTING TO KNOW WTF HAPPENED TO YOMI. I don't care if the show is about killing, all the good guys dying, etc. anymore....it's all about Yomi now. She's completely badass and by far my favorite character. Haven't enjoyed a character in such a long time, really liking the series now.... so anyways, I can care less about the other characters and the thing drawing me to this series is Yomi!

I think this is the first time I'll ever say an anime is better than the manga.
This prequel is awesome.....so much more enjoyable except for the fact that teen kagura is hotter.

The calm before the storm... A very peaceful episode that focuses on Nori x Yomi and comedy.
And in the background, that girl from the OP, Mei, begins to move. Nice weapon, by the way!

Good comedy, as always. With one of the Nabuu's talking strangely, Yomi and Nori fighting, etc.
Sad to know that Nori and Yomi clearly won't be together in the future though... No matter how well they get along in this episode...

Nori sure had nerves counterattack at Yomi...

Anyways, great episode. Very amusing, entertaining.
I didn't like any of the characters in the manga, but watching this anime, my impression of Kagura, Nori, and Yomi has definitely gotten better. Well, keh, the anime-version, anyways.

Full OP was pretty good. Of the fast-paced OPs I've heard so far, probably lower than Chaos Head's, but better than Toaru Majutsu no Index's.

Really amazing how they managed to turn background material from the manga into something I care more about than any plot/arc in the source material.

Yomi may actually be the only character from the Ga-rei-verse that I like due to how well the storytelling about her has been. (And yeah, not resorting to the shounen elements introduced in the manga was a big plus, having Nori as the closest thing to a male lead in this version is a good idea)

* Ayame-sama care about her underlings.... yeah. (i'm pretty sure she just want to see Kiri-chan wearing ladies' outfit)
* Yomi's dad sure has got guts.
* the appearance of mysterious naginata girl in the OP (what's her name again?)

* still no information about Natsuki Kasuga and her team.
* etc, etc. this would probably be a filler episode if not for the plans revolving around the Isayamas.

This is prolly the third time I'm saying this, but the series deserve the praise.
The music used in Ga-Rei Zero blows my mind every time.
I seriously can't wait for an OST to be released. I want those piano medleys to be transposed onto sheet music so badly.

Anyways, I'm kinda disappointed that the rest of the series will focus on the past instead of what happens after episode 2. I would like to watch more about that.

Ep 5

Well that was a pointless episode. This show simply doesn't have interesting enough side characters to pull off a "fluff" episode. What could potentially be (but isn't often) an amusing distraction in other plot-driven action series is inane and boring in this show. Most of the side characters in this show are ridiculous, bordering on moronic. They're there to support in fights, not to be the butt of the jokes. It just doesn't work to try to play them for comedy, because they're not really all too funny.

I'm guessing the next episode of this plot-driven action series will actually have plot. It's basically needed for this type of show.

Pointless and fluffy yes. But boring? No. I don't think so. It's hilarious and I believe this is one of those nice, easygoing episodes to set up the intense action later on. I, myself, enjoy Episode 5 and I love Yomi like always.

Really? I think this show has a wonderful selection of side characters, and they worked extra well in this episode.

Plenty of laughs in episode 05, though my favorite has to be the slow motion coffee to the face attack in the office.

Cute Kiri was cute this episode.

I really can't stop laughing when Nabuu and Nabuu speak. Wakamoto was the best choice for this two.

It's nice to see Yomi and Nori together, though still it's just ;___; when we know how it's going to turn out in the end. I do wonder if this 'trying to kill Yomi' plot has anything to do with what will happen later in the series.
