If you have to choose a series out of all the anime titles out, what will it be?

Hello guys, I think the title is pretty explanatory.

I'm mostly fishing for recommendations so I can marathon anime this week. I figure a number 1 anime for someone out of the thousand of titles around must at least be decent. Thus, the question.

So guys, what is the number 1 "Must watch" anime for you?

Why haven't I heard about these animes?

*Google synopsis*

Nice... Oh wait.

*blinks*

Kemono is 50 episodes? lol. I think I know where my free time this week and the following is going to go.

Next.

Nagi no Asakura.

Its running this season... Oh well. With how huge Kemono is I think it will be finished after I plow through it.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation - Flower and ices. I'll tell you what happens after I finish the series. ^^

Be aware Kemono is a slow series to get going, but all of the sudden you will realize that everything that went before had meaning - nothing was wasted. It is masterful storytelling, but it is also slow and carefully done.

Is it like Madoka? Like with the arrival of episode 10, everything take on a new light? Or perhaps a building block anime akin to a jigsaw? No plot hole, everything fits and drive to one theme?

Umm - not quite because one had no idea there was a puzzle in the background to begin with. With Madoka you had the sense (or I did), but my experienve of Kemono is like entering an uninhabited house and as you walk through it and explore you suddenly find that the house has somehow become an immense, grand mansion somehow.

There are several plots going on all at once - I guess its kinda like a tapestry at a distance. Looks impressibe but when you come up next to it your jaw drops when you see all the detailedhandiwork that went into it.

I think I'm going to like this anime.

Ok. Looks like first episode has stopped buffering. Time to plow through it and be violently obsessed for the next few days.

Code Geass, VOTOMS, Zeta Gundam, Roses of Versailes,...

But for marathon, I would recommend Noir, Madlax and El Cazador de la Bruja - A trilogy of Girls-with-Guns.

I'll recommend Dennou Coil. Like Erin, it's a show about and putatively for kids, but it is still a masterpiece that everyone can enjoy. Seconds for Erin and Junni Kokki. If those shows have appeal, I'll add Moribito, written by the same novelist as Erin, to the list.

Maison Ikkoku

A classic romantic comedy. Still haven't seen a better one.

If you have seen that then, NANA.

If we're limiting ourselves to televised anime series, not films, Kemono no Souja Erin is a good suggestion. However, my personal pick would also be Maison Ikkoku. And it's not because I feel its the strongest story ever told, or the greatest characters ever written. It's just that, somehow, at the end of the day, I always end up returning to it. It's a classic.

I third Maison Ikkoku. I feel like I left a part of myself in that fictional late 80's version of Japan…

Lots of other good recommendations here too though, especially 12 Kingdoms, Moribito, and Berserk IMO (actually, I like pretty much every series that's been mentioned save two I haven't seen).

It is true that Maison Ikoku does indeed pull you slowly into its world - it is immersive to be sure! ^^

For me Kemono no Souja Erin made a stronger impression, for whatever reason... perhaps there was something in me that identified with the MC more or something about her and her story that moved me more. Like others have mentioned about Maison, it is a series I always find myself "coming back to".

Different folks will respond to different things, of course, but it really is a delight to find a work like that in any art medium; they are few and far between for many and quite worth the search. ^^
