Whelp, that chapter pretty much blew whatever theory I have about Xiah knowing Kouji Tanaka right out of the damn water.

To start with, she doesn't even know who the hell he is, and her "high-class" master isn't him either, but rather the High Elf princesses. Also, she doesn't even know that it was a name. All she knew, as per instructions from the elder princess, was to simply mention "Tanakakouji" as one word in order to pique Lute's interest. How the elder princess even knew the significance of Kouji's full name is still a mystery.

So i thought about reading this, and read the first chapter of the manga to see what this is like.

starts with an action scene:
2 people with rifles lying in ambush in tall grass vs loads of unarmored lizard people with spears

The 2 people stand up, and charge into melee range guns blazing.
Instead of, i dunno, firing from distance while remaining in cover.

Is that indicative of the type of fights this WN will have?

No, the manga has been making a lot questionable choices in its adaptation.

Well, 35 chapters in, and can't say i'm too impressed.
First volume was great.
Second was started out ok, but the ending was facepalm inducing.
And third, has been equal parts boring and frustrating.
It's like he completely forgot about any other plans he had, forgot about Snow, forgot about their promise, and just decided to spend rest of his life as a servant to a vampire girl.

It's like volume 1 has nothing to do with volume 3, and the MC's just happen to share a name by pure change.

Will try keep reading in hopes that it gets back to vol 1 quality, but not very optimistic at this point.

as a reader, u shouldnt give up b4 100 chapters, or so i think, =)

What? He's a responsible young man, he was bought fair & square & treated very well compared to all the other darker possibilities of slavery.

Not to mention he actually likes his work & is very fond of every one there. Sure he went above & beyond the call of duty but he felt like working off his due to the end.

You may not have liked his decision but that's what he does (he is greatly influenced by his regrets from his past life remember?).

Fuck that, there is nothing fair about slavery, especially when only reason you are a slave is that some goods kidnapped you.
Vlads are, at the nicest interpretation, unknowing accomplishes to kidnapping (and i'd argue that forcing a child, or anyone really, into slavery, or even keeping one in slavery, is automatically abusive).

And what about Snow? Lute going to abandon her and her dreams, break the promise he made to her?

He's basicly dropping every other plan he had to serve the whims of a little kid.
He never, at any point, seems to have been planning escape, or earning his freedom, and treats being forced to slavery as somekind of obligation.

There's difference between being responsible, and being a doormat.

1.) slaves can earn their keep in this world. Well sometimes anyways.

2) Lute not gonna abandon Snow... i mean... what's the point of introducing her if she was going to be abandoned.

3.) He basically dropped everything huh? I guess... but V03 is very draggy due to certain things that happened during the writing of Volume 02.

This is fixed during the Light Novel version, adding a bit more fluff and continuity.

You have to forgive the WN because of the author's intended direction... he wanted it to be a dark novel after all. But alas, he went for a lighthearted mood with some dark theme(s) in the background.
