There is no difference. In Japanese term, maou (demon lord) and satan are the same thing.

She's actually faking behind under the guy's control to help out the MC. The guy later gets crushed by the MC and eaten. Freya also helped Milim with this and after everything is over, becomes Milim's servant (thus resigning from being a maou) along with one along guy.

There's "maou" and then "true maou." A maou is simply someone who gets called as such by society, though they almost always have the "maou seed." A true maou is someone who has possession of a maou seed and fulfills the requirements to awaken that seed. Ie. cause the deaths of 10,000 humans with your own hands (this can be indirect such as causing the war that resulted in those deaths) and using those souls as the catalyst to awaken the seed. Fulfilling that requirement will result in a class/race change into a maou, along with the voice of the world giving such notification, and all subjects of the to be born true maou obtain a blessing from the world.

The difference in power between a "maou" and those that have awakened as a "true maou" is practically the difference between heaven and earth. A maou stands absolutely no chance against a true maou. Iirc, there was actually a battle between two true maou that happened hundreds or thousands of years ago (the story doesn't outright say who the two are but it's very obvious) and the aftermath left a large portion of the continent a barren wasteland.

And with the summoned kids can't he grant them abilities, or does he have to help them develop their own, and do they become his subordinates? What changes happen when Rimel ranks up, both to Rimel and his subordinates? How does he deal with the (satanic��) church and crazy world traveler lady?

Wasn't the one who sent the army and the one having the inhumane summoning experiments done Hinata(?) the insane psycho world traveler who killed her father? She was expanding "her" church by hunting any and all demons. By category I mean Millim and Clayman are old maous who have had plenty of time to kill people, particularly Clayman who seems to be truly evil. Also, since hero girl is still showing up does Rimel free her from the slavery magic? He should give hero summoning magic to be controlled by a council of world travelers only.

Your wording is a little confusing for me right now and you seem to be refering to some events that I haven't read for myself yet, so I won't say any more on the matter.

Milim is one of the oldest and also a true maou. Clayman is one of the newest upstarts and isn't a true maou.

Clayman is actually the one that instigated the war against Tempest intending to use the human deaths that would result to awaken as a true maou, which of course ended up just leading to the MC becoming one before Clayman could harvest the souls.

There are actually extremely few true maou in existance. At first in the story, there are 10 people known as maou, but only two of them were true maou (Milim included). The rest are just upstarts. The MC is the third true maou in known existance.
