Dunno if I would go so far to say mild cases of Asperger's or autism personally, but regardless of the label that may or may not be "properly" applied to it, Shogo's straightforward character definitely has plusses and minuses (perhaps like any personality?), but underneath I feel that he is essentially good, and a good fit for both Hase and Fujimiya as well. And perhaps I would even say that Hase is a good person for Shogo to have as a friend as well?
Ep three was more of the same, which is good in my book, and I especially liked the bringing of another angle into Hase and Fujimiya's interactions. Sometimes an outside perspective can shed unexpected light on things, after all. Also thought the presentation around the number 18 was effectively done too. ^^

Tbh I think things should have went differently in the last scene... Shogo saying that he believe her after witnessing what he saw was fine but after that it gets really weird. Fujimiya just stood up and said she remember him. Her credibility just falls short here imo even though the whole memory loss is real and the reason behind remembering Shogo sounds logical.
Other than that, Shogo is a really likeable character so far with his straightforwardness |

Since the egg memory returned, I assume that we will gradually inch towards a more complete recovery as the series progresses. Shogo's theory of some kind of trauma seems like super-direct foreshadowing. It's possible that as her memories return, we'll be confronted with the source of the trauma, and overcoming it will be the make or break moment.

Do you know that you could listen to Fujimiya-san reading her diary.

I do have to say that after binge reading through vol 5 of the manga, Kaori's amnesia does become slightly more believable once more of her past gets unraveled. Still a little...too convenient for my tastes. Overall a good series though. Looking forward to more episodes. |

Lol when Shogo was saying that her amnesia may be caused by trauma in the past, and that it has something to do with her friend(s) during that time, first thing that came into mind was that Fujimiya potentially has a childhood friend! Unfortunate it isn't Hase (since he doesn't recall meeting her before), but hey, I'll take whatever I can get.

It's almost confirmed that Fujimiya's amnesia is caused by a past trauma. This is probably the most realistic explanation for her condition. I liked the way Shogo reacted, it made a lot of sense for him to be suspicious. Not everybody can be as gullible and trusting as Hase. Shogo is a nice guy, his only flaw is that he speaks his mind without thinking. He should have considered the possibility Fujimiya was telling the truth and that what he said would hurt her. Thankfully, he made up for this later.
Fujimiya is starting to recover a bit. I figured that would happen otherwise her relationship with Hase would have never been able to progress. I assume it's going to be a long process unless they intend to ditch the premise, which would be a real shame.

I liked the fact that Hase (quickly) reflected on the internal conflict he's dealing with. The guy genuinely wants to help Fujimiya regain her memories and become more sociable. But the end result would mean getting more friends, which might put an end to the "exclusive access" he has. The problem is that he obviously likes her as more than a friend, so there's some level of possessiveness. That's quite a natural feeling to have for the person you like, but it can get unhealthy and selfish. Glad he checked himself a bit, but I'd like to see more of that conflict.

I thought this episode was a slight step down from the first two, but still quite good. Yeah, I still like Shogo. Perhaps he was a little too blunt, but I don't see why he was wrong to be slightly skeptical, because I wouldn't be able to so easily believe someone having very selective case of amnesia either.
As for Hase, yeah I think he pushed a little too hard, but I'm not seeing what makes this detrimental to his character either. Last edited by MCAL; 2014-04-24 at 12:59. |

Pretty good episode although I can't help but think that this episode could've been more effective once they'd properly established Kiryu as a friend who regularly hangs out with Hase and Fujimiya. But I think the real problem I had with this episode was the reason that was the cause for their argument.
Why did it become such a rumor worth fussing about that Fujimiya had befriended Kiryu? It's not like he's popular or anything and it's not like he doesn't already have a friend. It also didn't seem like their classmates were surprised that the ever unsociable Fujimiya had made a friend. I really wish the basis of their first squabble wasn't caused by Hase suffering petty jealousy. Seemed a little out of character for a guy who eagerly suggested she become friends with his best friend not two weeks ago. I'm not saying it's impossible but I found it rather forced. I might've bought it if Hase's jealousy was built over an episode or two. I guess, in a way, it might be in character for Hase after all since he's very straightforward and reflexively evocative, but nevertheless, I still didn't like it, which is why the moment when they reconcile at the end didn't quite hit home as it ought to have. Anyway, it was good to see Kiryu covering up for the mess that Hase made. |
