Post Interesting Sites.

Authorised by xris
Post sites that have some interesting concept or content related to them.
So don't post blogs, some random forum, imageboard, reference et cetera.
Sites distributing licenced or illegal material are particularly uninteresting.
Please offer a descriptive/constructive opinion to at least one of the sites you mention.

Interesting Site Navigation Concepts
  • No Clicking: http://www.dontclick.it/
    • This site has got my vote. My main in reason is that clicking is a device dependent (e.g. mouse) gesture, while simply hovering or some act of movement is a lot more device independent. It's not really that clinking is hard with any other device, but the fact that it feels so unnecessary even with a mouse and so old makes makes it annoying when you think about it.

  • Mouse manipulation: http://www.powercursor.com/

Interesting Design Concepts
Interesting Purpose (programing & tech related)
Interesting Purpose (general)

Interesting Internet Public Statement

Then I'll be promoting this site then; Zen Garden.

What so good about this site? Well for one, it shows the power of css. Different css files changes a simple html file in a very different page layout all together,. Two, its a good practice (and a good bragging rights too if your submission accepted and included)

I still fails to get my css submission accepted tho

Nice thread Cats.. better then most of your other threads

The Numbers - Daily Box Office Chart
URL: http://www.the-numbers.com/charts/today.php
Concepts: This is a very well developed website that allows you to see how the movies, that are currently in theatres, are doing. You can see daily totals, weekend, and final totals. You can see how much money Production companies spent on each movie as well as get an overall rating based on RottenTomatoes the movie has received. You can read the "Latest Movie News" and learn about your favourite upcoming movie.

If so then I post...

1. www.tutorialized.com - Photoshop Tutorials for so many things. (photoshop tutorials, ok? that is why it's called tutorialized) - So many effects to try out, I still haven't done more than 10-15 of them ^_^)

2. www.daisuki.com.br - Good place for high quality scans. (small community of highly skilled members) - no registration need to download their scans from other users, it's all free, but you have limitation, but it's refreshed every day)

3. www.animerender.com - Good source for photoshop help and tutorials for photoshop effects, mostly adobe, cause coral can't do much. (same, (small community of highly skilled members) - you gotta register on the forums to really use this site)

OMG!!! This place is up again. -- www.bored.com/jokes, the joke section was down for the longest time, I can't even remember the duration. I at least recommend this place.

ps: Actually I recommend all these places.

If you're still registered there please pass them this small bug report: http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/4...greporthm6.jpg

------------------------------------

Interesting Art
  • Tree sculpture: http://www.slightlywarped.com/crapfa...ties/trees.htm
    • Illustrating a weird and fascinating art form. Contrary to what you may think it's not sculpting the trees/wood but with the trees. The hole concept makes me wonder just how long did it take them? I guess it all shows that no matter how bored you are, there's someone out there in the world a hell of a lot more bored then you.

See: Mighty Optical Illusions for more unconventional expressive art.

Interesting Authors
  • Webdesign Articles: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/
    • If CssZenGarden is where you watch, A List Apart would be where you learn. Generally the articles are written by well established web designers with very good credentials. ALP should be taken with a grain of salt by newbies however, since it walks on the more philosophical an practical side of things rather then the coolness factor.

Another similar site, this time specifically aimed at browser bugs: /* Position Is Everything */
See: http://www.dezwozhere.com/links.html for actual Css beginner tutorials and techniques.

  • Speed Painter: http://www.speed-painting.com/?page_id=5
    • The site is more of a v-Blog, but a very interesting one. If the term speed painting isn't clear, just watch the video bellow, it's not done by the same artist, but it's a very good example.

800x600 version and other drawings at http://www.mohafoto.hu

The ones at that site and most likely also the ones above, are done in Photoshop 7. (or some other version of Photoshop)
But of course they can be done with simpler more limited tools. (e.g. Mona Lisa Seedpainting in Ms Paint)

See: YoutubeSearch: Speed Painting for more.

Interesting Application
  • Online Office Suite: http://www.zoho.com/
I'm partially amused by the concept of this site. Basically this is a (free) alternative for MsOffice and OpenOffice.org, supporting both formats. I'm not actually seeing myself using this nifty little site, but I'm thinking if you're stuck somewhere dark with a cheap connection and need access to an office suite ASP, this site might prove an interesting solution. Read more about the technical details on wikipedia...

    Here are some more:
    ---- GreenDoc
    ---- ThinkFree

  • Spread Sheets: http://www.editgrid.com/home
Open one of the public sheets to see an example. I personally think of it as a friendly online calculator. There are simpler online calculators (e.g. http://instacalc.com/ ) but I just find using spread sheets much more interesting.
  • Web Operating System: https://desktoptwo.com/
This theoretically classifies as operating system. It is meant to act as your universal desktop, access anywhere you need as long as you have a browser.

    There is also:
    ---- Goowy
  • Homepage: http://www.pageflakes.com/
I guess personal/personable portal would be the correct way to describe it.

Well uh... dunno if this counts or not... but I find purevolume to be a very interesting site. Showcases new and upcoming bands (mostly genres of the rock category). Great site if you want to find some new music to listen to. ^^

  • Site Builder Site: http://builder.yaml.de/
You're basicly suppose to build a site using this. You select what containers you wish, what layout you wish then open the HTML tab (for example) activate a "zone" and start adding.

My personal rating for it: Cute.

Scott Pakin's automatic complaint-letter generator

An awesome site that makes a random rant for a persons name you typed in or a company name.

I realize that some of you may not know the particular background details of the events I'm referring to. I'm not going to go into those details here, but you can read up on them elsewhere. Don't be intimidated by AnimeSuki's threat to extend AnimeSuki's fifteen minutes of fame to fifteen months. I don't want this to sound like sour grapes, but AnimeSuki's mind has limited horizons. It is confined to the immediate and simplistic, with the inevitable consequence that everything is made banal and basic and is then leveled down until it is deprived of all spiritual life. In the simplest of terms, there is a problem here. A large, pugnacious, Pecksniffian problem.

AnimeSuki claims that it can be trusted to judge the rest of the world from a unique perch of pure wisdom. I would say that that claim is 70% folderol, 20% twaddle, and 10% another audacious attempt to give voice, in a totally emotional and non-rational way, to its deep-rooted love of ageism. AnimeSuki plans to vandalize our neighborhoods. What can you do about that? Start by reading about how AnimeSuki will stop at nothing to get its way. Become informed about the deceit, lies, and propanganda surrounding its promotion of colonialism. Tell everyone you know that no matter how bad you think AnimeSuki's ideas are, I assure you that they are far, far worse than you think.

If we don't restore the traditions that AnimeSuki has abandoned then AnimeSuki will redefine humanity as alienated machines/beasts and then convince everyone that they were never human to begin with. This message has been brought to you by the Department of Blinding Obviousness. What might not be so obvious, however, is that we must weed out organizations like AnimeSuki that have deceived, betrayed, and exploited us. Those who claim otherwise do so only to justify their own censorious lamentations. While there is inevitable overlap at the edges of political movements, AnimeSuki's perspective is that no one is smart enough to see through its transparent lies. My perspective, in contrast, is that AnimeSuki spews out its vituperative slander from a safe, no-risk forum. Now, I could go off on that point alone, but it keeps telling us that it has the trappings of deity. Are we also supposed to believe that its flimflams prevent smallpox? I didn't think so. Let me end this letter by challenging my readers to make this world a better place in which to live. Are you with me, or with the forces of Bulverism and oppression?
