Holy crap, it's been way too long! The episode was a surprisingly solid adaptation of OT14 Chapter 1 and they even kept the skydiving scene!

OP was also fantastic (with best girl being best) and ED was solid.
District 22 was glorious. The Hamazura bits were glorious.

It's been long since season II.

Spoiler for s3 ep1:

- It continues where S2 left. Roman Church and AC declaring war to each other, Touma and classmates trying to adapt to the current atmosphere. Later Touma meets a suspicious granny telling him about his involvement and his power playing a role on this but can't take long as Motoharu interrupts by shooting her down.
Now he has a mission that needs Touma's help, their destination, Avignon.

- animation, wasn't bad the background scenarios are still this series forte though for some moments I saw some off models drawing with characters.
- VA, is nice and IMO those should have been used for characters with larger roles instead of punch clock ones.
- OP theme, has good visuals but I'll give it time to get used to it.
- ED, was simply cute and calm. I feel like they'll add more as episodes advances.

A decent start. I'll give it 8/10. My enjoyment came mostly with watching it with friends tho so YMMV.

Hot damn that OP was the best one yet.

First episode was a bit more fillery than expected and there were a few choices which half took away from the seriousness of some scenes.

All in all, it was a reintroduction episode with some over-reliance on some old slapstick elements and the plot tacked on at the end when the pacing started to ramp up.

I can see the adaptation choices clearly but its not too much of an issue right now; the Episode ended in an alright spot but all explanations were removed so have fun following the plot, anime onlys.

I can't believe the OP was that good!

Anyways, we got a brief recap of Touma's narrating from events of the second season. New OP song is nice, there's actually quite an impressive number of characters in it that's shown including some battles involving God's Right Seat. Index herself is back too of course with Touma and I feel like their chemistry is still fun to watch even after all this time.

Misaka and her friends are back too! This felt more like an introductory episode that gets the audience to regain the feeling of the Index franchise. And I'd say, it's working rather well.

Pretty solid start. I heard the show will be 26 episodes long.

Haven't gotten my hands on the episode yet, so I'll primarily express my thoughts on the OP: As I'd thought, the instrumentals unfortunately overtake the vocals enough that the lyrics are difficult to hear and remember, making them less memorable than previous OPs IMO even if the song itself isn't bad.

As for the animation itself, it's unfortunately very jarring. I know it's meant to indicate a heavy change of pace from the previous arcs and openings, but the way it's done is overly aggressive and doesn't sit well with the artstyle, either. Barring the fact that the overall organisation makes some scenes look confusing (opening part with Mikoto apparently attacking Touma when it should be just some display of their alertness, or the abnormal camera movement between

making it impossible to figure out what the hell is going on and where...

Also, I'm gonna be honest and say I despise the cheap harem bait at the end that doesn't even make sense from a perspective point of view. Itsuwa clings onto Touma's arm for him to turn around to reveal Mikoto and then turns around again to reveal Index, only to turn around some MORE and then there's only Index at a completely different place than where they were previously at on the bridge...

And it's unfortunately a lot of character exposition when it's not going around spazzing out between scenes with the incomprehensible camera work...

Time to wait for the actual episode now. It's gonna be fun....

This is fucking terrible. Opening is as bad as I thought. In fact, I'd call it the most forgettable song in Raildex history with a nonsensical montage of character shots and absolutely no flow. The rotoscoping was jarring if not awful.

I had to watch it raw since I couldn't take it anymore lol.

It was okay, I guess. I'm just a bit disappointed they decided to cut out Fukiyose and Touma's baseball game, but it's understandable since some things definitely had to be cut out if they wanted to end the episode where it did.

Anyway, I'm satisfied with the pacing so far. I don't know how future episodes will go and, honestly, I'm still skeptical of whether they'll be able to do the arcs justice. Either way, I'll be sticking with this one 'til the end no matter how bad it gets since I waited too long for this .

And here we go, episode 1.

The Opening wasn't that good to be honest, as others mentioned before, pretty forgettable. As for the animation, while is like the usual quality I can say that I expected something better after all this time.

Now regarding the pacing, I don't have any problems with it to be honest. We got a recap made by Touma then we jumped stright into the usual life in Academy City, yes there are parts missing but is understandable when they need to fit a lot of material in this new season. Overall it was okay, nothing remarkable.

I caved and watched a raw. I like the opening. It is of course a step down from Sees Vision, but I like it more then the first season II OP.

The first episode ended right where I thought it would so I was fine with how they paced this episode. The I was thinking that they would have the Terra/Aqua prologue in, but it looks like that was cut so Index could get some screen time. I guess the staff really wanted to have her in the first episode and she wouldn't have been in the show for a while otherwise.

The ending was alright, almost lazy even, lol, but the opening was incredible, definitely the best one yet. Am very satisfied overall. I thought it was a great episode. I am so hyped for what we're going to be getting. They managed to get through a lot in the first episode so not bad. It was basically what I was expecting, but am glad for some of the filler tbh. I liked how they basically tried to cram as many people back onto the screen as possible for episode 1. I'm in this for the ost and the animation and so far I'm impressed. It's not perfect, but it's way better than what we had before, so I'm veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrry happy.

And to be honest, I thought that the anime explained it as well as they possibly could have assuming they weren't going to go into detail. The details are there, you just have to figure them out.

I really disliked the opening, seemed very generic. Especially the song. But Index never had any good openings imo. Railgun always had the superior ones.
The ending on the other hand was at least somewhat unique not super original but I liked it.

Episode itself was nice, certainly more interesting than the other seasons so far.
Just wish the random panty shots would stop, makes me seriously consider the age of the author sometimes....I guess it's an anime thing...sigh (please kill this trope already)

Hmm... What to do? There are so many anime this day maybe I'll just avoid the series until Saten-san and Railgun comes back.

Having seen the OP myself now, I’d need to get used to that first part, but the main part of the song (the part used in the trailers) is awesome.

And I love that last part of the OP video; Itsuwa is mega-adorable, and Mikoto and Index are like “ANOTHER ONE?!?!”
