So, I've finished it!
Since the start I knew who the baddie would be, though I didn't expect him to be Aim until a few moments before he clearly revealed it, anyway I did like his character in his own way.

Such a bitter end, even though I can't say it was bad, it left me with a feel of emptyness, and why the hell there is no epilogue? that sucked, seriously.

Also I missed two things in the last chapter, one was more interaction with Sieg, it was a great character and IMO deserved it, I expected him to directly help Caim at the end (or viceversa), and second, at least one epic fight of Caim, there wasn't even one in the whole VN, I always expected a rematch against Gau, but when that became impossible, I expected him to fight powered-up Sistine, Lucius obviously wasn't enough of a match for him, physically speaking.

Some parts became kinda annoying, I guess the highlight of annoyance is the third chapter by far, I did like the chapter's plot overall but Eris was unbearable; at the fourth chapter Collette's arrogance at some points also became very annoying, but nowhere near Eris, and as I'm a fan of action, I missed some kind of it in the whole chapter, but this is not important at all; also in the last chapter Caim's first decission was VERY annoying, even if I understand it, I couldn't help but hate it, though it's not that I didn't like the plot development there.

Anyway, overall IMO this was a GREAT VN and I don't regret the big effort I made to read it all with my very limited japanese knowledge (relying on JParser, since I can't read most of the kanji), and I think I learnt a lot while doing it.

Edit: lol, I was still missing one appendix scene, that's why bust up and bg were still locked.

I didn't say it was one; it's just a reminder . though it's bordering on spoiling my expectations, if not the plot.

Spoiler for about the ending:

I definitely share the sentiment regarding the ending - as far as writing goes it wasn't a bad one, but emotionally it was one of the more unfulfilling endings i have encountered in a long time. Talk about a depressing, hollow note to end the story on.

It wasn't so much of it being a Bad End - i was having suspicions the story was heading in that direction for the better part of the last chapter. It was the incompatibility of Tia's and Caim's respective regrets that made the whole deal so bitter. Her biggest regret would be allowing Caim to pass away while she had the power to do something about it, his biggest regret would be not saving Tia and living in a world made of her sacrifice. Yet one had to give, and the other remained.

I found the line of Caim likening living in a world made of her sacrifice to sleeping on her corpse a particularly powerful one. Yet Tia is no longer, and Caim is left with exactly that. What is the birth of a new world for everyone else is Tia's funeral for him. The very world is indeed her corpse, so to say, and yet he is forced to live in it, because that was her wish.

Frustrating ? Hell yes! Especially considering Tia certainly deserved a better end than being mistreated and emotionally manipulated in to a self-sacrifice to the very end. Damn that bastard Lucius, i demand an appendix scenario of him rolling within a pit of chaos Considering one of the questions raised by the story on several occasions is whether Tia was born only to suffer a life of hardship, i find it incredibly vexing that, looking back on it, i find myself unable to give the answer she would deserve.

And then we have Tia's appendix scenes ... talk about rubbing salt on a wound. Tia is dead and Caim, who is left behind, now lives his life while experiencing dreams and delusions of a future that they couldn't grasp, constantly being remind it's but a dream ? I found the process of sitting through her appendix scenes quite weird because of this, talk about a bitter taste in the mouth. Pure evil.

So ...yeah, a thoroughly depressing ending all around, not quite something i was expecting from August, even with the darker-than-normal setting. I found it so unsatisfying i am pondering the merits of a fanfic continuation of the story, an impressive accomplishment in itself, considering it has been 3 years since i felt the urge to write anything

I still don't understand how the Gran Forte remade the city into its current form....If a portion of the city broke off and fell to whatever remained of the earth how did the part that became the Prison district end up lower than the rest of Novus Aether? Unless its fall was arrested partway....

I finally finished this game.

The plot are nice and defintely a good VN but

Some chara like Eris in her route driving me crazy sometimes. Not to mention Caim decision not to interfere with the research almost makes me punch the monitor. I understand where the reason come from but still - dude Who cares!?-

He redeem it later on and I thought for sure now we got our happy ending.....

What I got is a hole in my chest and God that appendix seriously!? I mean seriously August!?

The ending is too bitter for my taste and somehow it doesn't feel complete

Don't get me wrong though this is a really wonderful VN that put your emotion in roller coaster but the way I see it something tells me that this not the whole story yet. I mean the way they got no epiloques and all seems suspicious to me. August game usually wrap things up nicely. Perhaps someday they would release a fandisc for this....

I would certainly feel happy if that were the case (unless they further twist the knife in the wound .. damn that appendix), but August's past history with fandisks doesn't make me hopeful. None of their past games have ever had a fandisk released for them, so it doesn't look like those feature within August's business scheme. If one were to come out for Eustia, that would be a first. A very welcome first indeed, but meanwhile i'm afraid i won't be holding my breath.

Of course I wouldn't cross my fingers for it either but let's be optimistic a little bit (the ending just affect me that much).


This would be august first game with a tone that is a lot different than their previous work. It's dark heavy with alot of question regarding morality (prostitution, kill or to be killed, trauma, government politic, religion,sacrifice etc etc) people dying left and right and even something that blatantly wrong had to be done to simply calm the crowd. And if one wants to argue here almost everyone standing in grey area.


And that's what make it good. But some aspect of the game needs to be round up.


Past August game gave a really satisfying closure hence at the very least there's no need for a FD with all the fanservice to cheapen things up. But this time August seems went out of the norm which makes me think that some things could still be done (in the FD of course).

I want to know the reaction of God and It's Angel toward Eustia action purifying the world. City is safe before because of Irene power but now no one protecting it.

Then again this could be just a wishful thinking of a fan that simply want happiness for two fictional character that went through alot in the game.

Oh, i definitely agree with that. I said it before and I'll say it again - the ending was one of the more emotionally unfulfilling ones i have had the "pleasure" of experiencing in a long time. I am no stranger to endings where someone gets the short end of the stick and would normally shrug and move on, but this one felt extra unsatisfying considering how incompatible Caim's and Tia's final sentiments were. Just ... meh. (And that appendix ...grrr).

Which is why I am working on a fanfic "after story" type of deal (75 pages worth of word document and counting ), for my own peace of mind if nothing else, touching upon the things you mentioned in your spoiler as well. Yeah, i didn't like the ending that much.

Though i will agree the way it ended, and given the nature of the universe, there is a lot that can be done with the ending, and many ways things can go from there. It certainly seems much more "fandiskable" than August's previous titles, so it is always nice to entertain the possibility they just might make one for this, no matter how unlikely.
