Claude's goal is a Super Human revolt. Sounds like a Xanatos gambit by making society difficult for Super Humans. It wouldn't surprise me if the boss is one of the aliens. |

I finally caught up with the show, and wow, what a ride. It was totally worth it. I'm sad that Concrete Revolutio seems to have become the underdog of the fall season - it's a well-written (no, not messy or confusing at all), intelligent series that would deserve so much more attention than it gets. I hope it will be able to keep up the high quality in the second cour as well. I wonder what the eventual resolution will be...
The show also made me wish I was better acquainted with the the relevant period of Japanese history. Even though it was possible to follow the show with the amount of knowledge I have (I guess the writers didn't want to make it too difficult for the average viewer), I'm sure more in-depth knowledge would add a lot... I'll probably do a rewatch when the second cour is over, I'll have to read up by then. With this and Gatchaman Crowds Insight, 2015 was a pretty good year for intelligent and well-written shows discussing important and even controversial things without being pretentious or condescending, and not skipping on the entertainment factor. We rarely get two such series in a year... good job, anime industry! (<- I don't know if I should be sarcastic about this last sentence or not.) |

No I think Satomi of Imperial Ads is rather suggesting that this is what the ruling party of Japan wants to do with the revised SHRA (as a new Peace Preservation Law) and a backdoor for clamping on dissent. If anything given that they are helping expose the government's backdoor dealings and experiments through Claude it at least seems they want Superhumans to have a greater role no doubt for the corporate and financial bottom line of their company.

I'm having the same problem with the "Superhuman" label. If they are not genetically human, why are they called "Superhuman"? Some of those superhumans looked like animals, iirc. It's like they need an "Other Sentient Beings" law to protect them.

Wow, too bad this was aired during OPM's time. If OPM emphasizes on the action part of the Western Superhero genre and a major deconstruction of it, this emphasizes the underlying messages that the Western Superhero genre used to incorporate (well maybe some of the comics still has it but the movies I see are all action based). While its very confusing (for a weekly show... much better if marathoned) narrative will have never made it mainstream, I can see this getting more popularity in the west if it aired before or after OPM. But alas, such an unfortunate time for them.
Like obviously this takes A LOT of inspiration from Watchmen ("If Superhumans protect humans, who protects the Superhumans?"), but ironically one can see more Marvel in it than DC. From the methods of Magneto, Kikko resembling what happened to Dark/Phoenix, to what looks to be the beginnings of Civil War, I just can't help but feel amused at this being more Marvel. Heck, I almost burst out laughing at how blatantly IQ was ripping off SHIELD. XD So while this is another show I dropped 3 episodes in ("Anime where the childhood friend isn't revealed till episode 4" for 400 please Alex), I'm actually glad I marathoned it as it made the show much easier to understand. Was always planning to finish marathoning it sometime in the future because I've always found Japanese take on Western Superheroes to be interesting, but upon watching Eps4 I couldn't stop once knowing Jirou has known Emi since he was a kid. JirouXEmi FTW! XD So on to the next anime with an underlying theme that I haven't finished, Gatchaman Insight. @Orion Late reply, but note that "Superhuman" is translated from "Choujin". Someone with a better grasp of JP can better tell you, but that definition is really different from "Ningyen" or some other word the Japanese calls humans. So poor translation choice perhaps (the translators obviously wanted to be as close to 'superheroes' without calling them as such), but I honestly can't think of any other word that can describe them.

Season 2, episode 1:
Yay, the show is back. New OP song is nice too, I like it just as much as the previous one. A joint investigation, Jirou's back, and trouble already running lose. A bit of a chaotic but entertaining episode imo. I'm glad this series returned with all the characters. Washizu, the space sheriff is also a somewhat interesting character imo with his idea about justice. Shiba's mind is going a bit twisted imo with the whole justice thing. Looking forward to how the rest of the season will develop!
