Episode 1 , subs are out:
Well, that was kinda confusing but they introduced a lot of concepts like logic, Pandora levels (above 7+ this episode), and the monsters. It's based on a card game that no one played before so idk how much depth they will focus on that. The action was okay but I'm not really impressed with the animation style. Going to stick around for more to see where this goes. Hope they don't forget characterization on the other ACLA characters besides Athena.

I didn't see anything even remotely ressembling this one aside from sharing the same publisher & music composer (I don't believe CL was really horrible compared to say, Chaos Dragon (story-wise), if anything I just found it to be at least mediocre).
Spoiler for Episode 1 Complete:

So it's a cliched kids show, but I enjoyed it. So sue me. I liked the look, the characters, and the voices. My enjoyment may not last, since fighting shows are not my thing, but so far, so good.
I thought the little sister was well-voiced...and she turned out to be played by Kayano Ai. Athena is played by Uesaka Sumire. Other names in the cast: Taneda Risa, Orikasa Fumiko, Touyama Nao, Ueda Kana, Minase Inori, Mimori Suzuko, Toriumi Kousuke, Gouda Hozumi. Bring it on. Directed by veteran Chigira Kouichi (Last Exile), amazingly enough.

Pretty good start overall. Mostly thanks to the main character. Like the setup of a guy who did the standard kind of hero move of putting it all on the line to save a life. But in this case the guy had to live for the past 2 years with the consequences of that decision. No longer able to fight, just watching the threats continue to exist with him being left utterly unable to get involved. Watching the video of his last fight over and over, even forgoing sleep.
Now he gets the chance to leap back into it, though potentially just walking right into the same result. Curious to see how things turn out for Yoshichika this time around. All in all it was a solid step into the show. The family was fine. From the entertaining father to a younger sister who just doesn't want her brother to leap into danger yet again. She got to see first hand how he lived after he lost his qualification to fight. No shock she'd rather just have him stay safe at home. Could be a nice and fun show to watch. Action shouldn't be anything too over the top, but should be fine for this. I suppose the immediate bit of entertainment will be the clash between the current leader of this group and Yoshichika who is basically a returning veteran.

Not to bad.
The characters and setting are B grade, not exceptional, but likeable. I'm worried the show might be lacking a bit of long term depth, but I'm giving it a chance to show some. Bonus point: The little sis uses of rpg terms was a nice touch, as long as she uses fresh jokes on the same theme she could be really entertaining! |

Episode 1
This was an okay episode. Nothing special about it. The MC used to be a logicalist but lost his powers, only to get them back two years later and then resume his fighting. It has a rather strange world and I'm not sure if I follow its Logic. The artwork looks like a mixture of CG and regular animation, but that is probably because of the colors here, which I'm not too fond of. I'll give it another episode to see if its worth continuing or not. Although I don't think I'll go any further than that. |
