Gentle is the best antagonist since Stain, for very different reasons. He's just so damn entertaining.
I think Aoyama might come to Deku's rescue. I'm hoping so at least, because a face-off between him and Gentle would be one for the ages. Besides, he never really had much opportunity to shine compared to the rest of the class.

My take on Gentle is that he was a NEET that didn't grow out of being a Chuuni. La Brava coming to his life encouraging his Chuuni tendencies didn't help either.
However in this society being a Chuuni is somewhat a norm. This is why some people have a problem conforming with society. Yes for Gentle he has lost his way as it has nothing to do with any sort of justice as he is an attention whore. And now he is upstaged by both heroes and villains as his capers are petty. |

It would be interesting if Gentle's becomes a recurrent character as Deku's and gang connection to the underworld. Right now the student heroes are severely lacking on the intel department, they have been mostly reactive and completely dependant on the adults to do anything. Having someone who can infiltrate the other side and bring them the ability to be proactive could be an interesting change of pace.

Why is it that it took fighting Gentle to make me respect the hell out of Deku more than ever before? This fight has gotten me more excited and pumped than any in the previous couple of arcs.

Yeah, this has been an awesome fight. Deku's finally at the level where he can use a decent amount of his strength without breaking something, on top of his own clever tricks.
So that's what her quirk was. Too bad for him that Deku's got a lot of battle experience by now, looks like this will conclude next week (and hopefully in Deku's victory). |

Since Chapter 176, there's been at least one thing Deku did that made me cheer in each chapter. Like, literally pump my fist and cheer!
Chapter 176 - Deku introducing Air Force, not just as a cannon to hit the enemy, but also to propel him to a telephone poll, so he could jump right back toward Gentle. Chapter 177 - Deku catching the steel beam and then one-handing it while shooting Air Force. Chapter 178 - Deku using the platforms against Gentle, by changing directions and using it to ricochet Air Force off of one at the last moment. Also, subverting Gentle's power-up beatdown, by blocking the hit and claiming he's fought tougher enemies. I also love how Deku takes the time to place a pipe on Gentle's air platform as a way to warn people. Like... he's chasing a guy and still has the wherewithal to do that. That's a real hero mentality. There's also the fact that Gentle and La Brava are really interesting and entertaining characters. From personalities, to how their quirks work/are used. I love it. |

Yeah, this really has been a great fight so far. After all, this is technically Deku's first solo battle against a villain (he usually had some sort of outside help for most of his previous battles), so it's really awesome to see how well he handles himself here. Really makes me look forward to seeing how the rest of the class can handle solo villain fights (well, aside from the obvious aces like Bakugou and Todoroki)....
And hey, we have official confirmation of La Brava being a stalker! Are we sure that power of "love" isn't more along the lines of "obsession"? And man, that eyelash lady.... yeeeeesh. |

Another thing... the way Deku moves around in the air using Air Force really reminds me of Bakugo... showing that he's still using him as an element to his own unique style. It's really kinda cool.

The enemies used the power of love. Unfortunately this isn't Fairy Tail, so power of love/friendship doesn't = instant win.
I love Gentle's quirk forces Deku to actually make use of his analytical skills instead of just brute forcing his way.

We've always known about it, but Deku's observation skills are really amazing. The way he used Gentle's own power against him was awesome.
And the power of love being on the villain's side was great. Though it's hard to see those two as villains.

I took the explanation, from the manga, as the muscle form was his natural look before he got gravely injured by AfO. As he atrophied he used OfA too pump himself up to his muscle form kind of like when you flex from a relaxed position which is why Deku when he uses his the power he only slightly looks more muscular and the real power is the augmented abilities.
