Big sister. And, you know, maybe if they had a same haircut... And Johnny Depp stopped eating for a few weeks...

Big sister?? *remembers how Nishida references her* Oh, yeah, you're right.

IMO, it would take a bit more than a new haircut and few weeks of starvation to make the two look similar.

Maybe the only Johnny Depp movie she's seen is Edward Scissorhands.

why can't they just classify this as a sports anime instead of josei?

The manga is serialized on a josie magazine, whose primary readers are onesan?

I heard someone are perplexed about anime airing time. The time is late night. It is for otaku who is willing to stay awake, or they watch the recorded show. That person thinks the anime is like one of NHK shows.
p.s. NHK tends to air show with certain degree of quality/decency.

You do realize sports is a genre while Josei is a demographic so really its both.

Err...

It's a recap episode. How exactly it is surprising that people dismiss it ?
Sure the omake were fun, but they still adds up to barely one or two minutes, and are largely inconsequential.
I find more surprising that studios still aggravate people with recap, than people being dismissive of recap.

We learn from the selection of scenes for recapitulation just what the show's writers think are the key elements of the previous episodes. Paraphrase is interpretation, after all, and what is more interesting than the writers' own views on what the show is about?

So yeah, perhaps for some people, they don't look inconsequential. It's still 90 to 95 % of reused footage we already saw and no advance in the story, so it's hardly surprising that people dismiss them.

Full breakdown in communication here? Hyper b's point had nothing to do with the omakes. He was saying that the recap itself is what can provide value, by giving us a perspective of what the writers consider the key points of the past episodes. If conscientiously done, a recap can provide valuable insight into the meaning of a series.

In this case of Chihayafuru S2's specific recap episode, I don't necessarily disagree. There was definitely some engagement on that level as I watched the recap episode. For example, the transition/interruption of the 'serious' scene between Kana and Sumire about romance being preserved via expressive formality, into the joke about Kana's eyelashes was kinda bizarre but at the same time effective. It cut short the sentimentalism the original episode afforded towards Kana's feminization/Sumire's expertise in contexts beyond karuta, not necessarily to negate the value of those developments, but to implicitly acknowledging that they weren't the focus.

However interesting the selection and treatment of past scenes might've been, however, all the same I won't deny being disappointed by the recap in having the start of the exciting team tournament finals delayed by a week. The recap episode was alright overall, but I wouldn't place the satisfaction of this one on the level of a fresh new episode with new content.

I think the studio just wants to relieve their staffs' stress from tight schedules. Besides, they also have to worry about the budget constraint. No comment on "aggregate" and the recap. The manga has more extra short story. I'm sure they can do better if the show is more popular.

Wow, this episode was intense. By the time the episode finished, I felt like I was feeling the exact same way the players were feeling. It was an excellent episode.

Shinobu was bored throughout, but she finally remembered Chihaya and was interested. I'm expecting Shinobu to have a greater appreciation for team play after this.

Btw, very interesting point when Chihaya was becoming one with the poems that when she thought of the desire to be together, she pictures young Arata. I do hope that she gets her wish soon.

Oddly, I didn't feel this match was as intense than the other one. That one seems to be more focused on poetry and sound, which makes it more... soothing. The imagery when Chihaya was trying to picture the cards in her mind was beautiful. I'm loving it so far. Rion is a pretty interesting opponent. She can only play her best when the reading is good, or rather, passionate. Otherwise, she can't hear the "color" of the poems. This is the reason she's still B-class. Having her grandmother be the reader gives her a tremendous advantage. It seems like she might be the same type as the Meijin.

I was looking forward to how Shinobu would react and she didn't disappoint. She was so bored she fell asleep lol. Of course, it all changed when she witnessed Chihaya's top speed and remembered her. She's really engaged in the match now. Sadly, now that Chihaya has gotten injured, I'm afraid their match will have to be postponed. Maybe we spent so much time in the team tournament because Chihaya won't be able to play in the individual one, hence it will be shorter. Hope I'm wrong. It depends on how bad her injury is. It's impossible to tell at the moment.

The ending with the four boys getting up in sync and burning with passion was great. It's about to get real!! Nishida better not mess up once again.

There was a moment I found very funny in the episode:

Yama... Yamashiro... <- can't remember her first name
Yama-chan <- gave up

This seriously made me burst out laughing
Typical Chihaya.

Excluding the recap (which was nowhere as cute as the first season's), Chihayafuru is killing me with its streak of 5 minute episodes. It just comes in, flies by and then I'll have to wait for 7 days again.
