Haha, I laugh everytime Houtarou tries to get away from a curious Eru. I mean c'mon, her curious mode is very captivating but I guess for someone like Houtarou it must be a drag. Still I like how Eru's high energy spirit's overpowering Houtarou's reserving energy and normal life

So this is Takayama, eh? I didn't realize. I've been there once - very beautiful place, often called "Little Kyoto of the mountains".

Yup, it's Takayama in Gifu prefecture.
I just visited that cafe yesterday ha.

The author is a Takayama native and he graduated from Hida high school. The novel itself is set in a fictitious high school but Kyoani used his high school as a reference in his honor.

The town itself is enjoying this. I've noticed a huge influx of otaku just this last week. I hope the school isn't in trouble lol.

Yeah, this seems to be turning into a pattern for KyoAni. But this is also a good way to prevent high schools from becoming generic; by portraying each school as a real place, it allows the show to have a setting that is actually unique.

Despite the fact that Japanese Highschools all have similar floor plans, no two schools are the same in reality. And by grounding the setting in a real city and a real school, it allows the anime to have its own flavour compared to the many other highschool anime out there.

Maybe they are being funded by Japan's tourism board.

Who knows.

First time pausing a lot of times an episode from a KyoAni show. Never thought this day would come.

I do not like mysteries, but KyoAni is my favorite studio, and I will watch anything by them. I'm still not convinced by this story at all. Not feeling it yet. I really hope episode three makes a change. As for the moe... I can't see Chitanda as moe. All I hear is the voice of Ritsu with long hair. And Ritsu isn't moe at all.

On the other hand, I'm glad Ai Kayano has become the arch-nemesis of Kana Hanazawa. Or maybe KyoAni just doesn't like Kana. Ever since Ai Kayano did her little role in Index S2, I knew she would be the next big hit. I should become a talent scout.

The ending seems like a a Denpa Onna "Ruru" 's rip-off but far less sexy and far less addictive.

I am just watching this for Eru's eye and her (growing?) relationship with Houtaru. Also after reading the novel I am looking forward to the future arc

Well , the show isn't really interesting atm , i'll say that there's only the moe.

so much hate for Hyouka, lol..jeez, I actually think it's pretty good, Houtaru and Chitanda's relationship seems very interesting, and as a mystery fan this series seems "curious".

I guess it is kind of slow, but that's kind of how mystery series work, a la Detective Conan.

Well what the heck you guys, i don't know what hit me, but i actually started liking this show!
Frankly saying i almost slept throughout the first episode, waking up just to watch the gorgeous animation. However, i decided to give Hyouka a second chance and watch the second episode and i'm glad i did. I don't know why or when, but while i was watching something clicked and when the end of the ep came and Chitanda was about to "confess" to Oreki I was basically begging for the credits not to roll. I don't know what magic you used Hyouka, but it worked!

I find it amusing how a mundane event was pumped up into a mystery, take away sense of purpose and meaning, replace it with fragmented and abstract facts, and the brain starts some magic.

That suggestion houtaro made about the side of the book being placed used as a sign of (success/fail) actually makes the mystery even more interesting, why would students be using such language? That could be even a more intriguing thing.

And Eru wants to understand the system that gives birth to thoughts...Girls with intellectual bents are not that common in anime. me like.

It's a 21 episode series, so slow can't be considered the same as DC, that has 600+

An interesting show so far, that seems to have a lot of promise. The artwork, so far, has been beautiful and very creative. The music is a little lacking, though, and akwards at times.

Chitanda seems to have exceptional senses, as in, so far, exceptional hearing and smell. I wouldn't be surprised if she has exceptional sight, taste, and touch as well. Her energy is a little too much, which even makes me exhausted just watching her. Also, it seems the "confession" she will make is more likely a real confession, not a love confession.

Houtarou is like an old man in a young man's body. He is perceptive, yet unenergetic. He is more of the reaction to Chitanda's catalyst.

The four main cast members look interesting in their own way, but the female cast members have quirks that can be overbearing at times.

I have a feeling that Hyouka is just Haruhi Suzumiya but with the art doing most of the mind screws instead of the plot. I like plot with my mind screws.

Introductions over, next week will start the actual arc proper --> Hyouka, but I'm really surprised by the anime production. It's really good for such a series.

If by that you mean mysteries with more substance then thats good to hear because these "who left the light on?"esque mysteries are not cutting it for me.

I am enjoying Oreki's character and his deductive reasoning. With the locked class room being the exception, even if his conclusions have so far been ultimately baseless, how he logically works out and arrives at his answers (and the visuals to go with it) are very impressive. Also enjoyed that hallucination with Chitanda where he wanted to order the gray campus life.

To bad i cant say the same about the other cast members. Admittedly i knew that Satoshi was going to annoy me but man i never expected him to be this nerve grating. He is the same type of character that is Souta (guilty crown) & Yosuke (persona 4). That snarky, intrusive tool that is the best pal of the male lead who always has something witty and incredibly unfunny to say and is starving for attention.

Then you have the hyper active little miss sparkly eyes. How on earth am i supposed to take that one seriously?
