Suprised this hasn't been been mentioned yet: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news....s-on-same-day
Aniplex of America mentioned at a convention yesterday that negotiations for licensing both Madoka AND Bakemonogatari are underway. But it's not entirely certain if they mean themselves or another distribution company. I'm really excited about this! Of course I have some preferences as to who actually claims them, but it's enough that these two great shows will be actually be released here. |

Well they can't really go the way Japan did with all the misleading artwork and such. Imagine a young kid walking into a Best Buy and seeing the bubbly artwork, smiling girls and innocent title. That would be bad. But hiding the show's secret darkness is definately a big part of the enjoyment. Imo, a good way they could go without ruining the surprise is to highlight the mystery of the show with art showing the colorful character designs against dark, cryptic backgrounds (the placeholder art for the Blu-Rays is perfect). It's not enough to reveal that the show is a psychological thrill ride but just right to invoke a feeling of "something's off here" that would compel new people to buy it.
There's no way any licensing company interested in Madoka would edit it. The otaku outrage would be insane. |

Gakkou Kaidan: Afterschool Ghost Stories was mangled beyond recognition because it had a cast of young children.
"Mew Mew Power" was PROUDLY touted as been so Americanized that "the kids will never know it was ever from Japan!!" And don't get me started on the rape of CardCaptor Sakura... Worst case scenario, we can expect some crap like this for ethnically-cleansed Amercian release: "Oh no, Charolotte bit Maria and sent her to another dimension!!"

Does anime even get promoted nowadays if it isn't going to be on TV? I thought it just got random ads or banners on sites like ANN?
Please, no series has been treated poorly by anyone other than 4Kids for years. They know they won't appeal to the casual non-anime viewers with anything new, so they stopped trying at the expense of those who actually want to watch it. |

And I seriously doubt that fans would be willing to accept 4Kids' butchering practice, even if they could get the license to either Madoka, Bakemono, or both.
