I love how Eren just goes berserk on Reiner since their betrayal. (also somewhat funny as well)
Regarding Ymir, I think it's interesting that she begins to think about the side to choose since her best interest is Krista. Reiner's interest and promise really serves as building bridge alliance for him and Ymir. I don't think either one trusts each other though. Found it interesting that they gave more insight and depth into Ymir's past. I think the anime adaptation captured her past life perfectly and made me care about Ymir as a character.

What in the actual heck? Ymir's backstory just made everything more confusing. Was turning into Titan some type of punishment/banishment where she came from? And from what Bertholdt said, it looks like they've all eaten someone at some point in their lives, including Eren. good god, this show.
also love in the preview that it looks like Mikasa caught up and is peering through that crack at Bertholdt with those eyes. |

I personally would have been less puzzled back at time if the manga had such scenes too.

Well we find out some more info about Ymir.
She's about 60 years old, was part of a cult who were later arrested and forcibly turned into Titans before eating Reiner's friend turned her back into a human. I'm curious if Reiner's hometown has a connection with Ymir's city since they both have a relation with humans turning into Titans.

I'm not sure what to think about the anime team's decision to include Ymir's backstory here. It wasn't supposed to be shown until much much much later. I personally think it gives away too much at this point, and that the flashback itself is not as impactful as it was in the manga due to this shuffling.

It isn't like you can expect Eren to calmly follow their instructions after what happened.
If anything, it is thanks to Eren's struggle that the scouting legion managed to be THAT close.

My guess is that anime is not doing too well and they decided to throw in some spoilers to make people buy the manga.
Wonder if we will see any more AoT anime...hope I am wrong. As a manga reader I was watching it and was thinking, nah, they aren't going to show THAT...OMG what are they doing!!! |

Your guess is beyond unlikely: anime planning has to be done months or even a year before its actual production (be it the script, storyboard etc).
The series was already in production at the very least 2 years ago (they have shown preview snippets of the second season in the movie), so no, they obviously didn't change their plans just like that. In general, it is nearly impossible for a studio to make changes in accordance to how an anime performs with the audience, simply because of production schedule. It is usually cut content or cancelled episodes, not extra stuff right in the latter part of a cour. Changing the script and storyboard would have a snowball impact on the rest of the series, which would be beyond unrepairable.

I'm a bit surprised they gave out big reveals in this episode instead of the last one, which had no action at all. But yeah, you can infer quite a lot from this. Titanization drug was used widely in the past...that's probably how they made the walls. They also released titans outside, probably in order to attack their rivals. If so, motives of Reiner faction are clear.

no no the manga followed the story nicely..piece after piece it all made sense...
Now people might be confused on who are those soldiers, where are they from, what is the island the current story takes place ect. it added unneeded for now confusing material... it could be ok to show for now how yamir runs around as titan and eat RBA friend but more than this was not really good thing to do right now... since they could have easily made this flashback in the time "the letter" showed up...so while it is beign read we see the flashback story as we did now How many episodes till the end of the season 2-3 ? scary to think how much spoilers they will imput in those future episodes. |
