Ok I think I may have figured it out lets see if this works
Drawing: Flat color: Edit: Images removed because the external hosting service was "upgraded" in Jan 2014. This means the images were deleted. What remained here would only serve as an advert so has been removed. will post finished shaded drawing later. Please forgive if I mess it up Last edited by NightWish; 2014-11-13 at 09:10. Reason: picture too big |

I quite like it. The only thing I would watch is that the ear looks a tade to wide. Length-wise good, but it is just.... I dunno, too big. Also, if the ears are that big, you should have the tip of the other one showing behind her head, as well. I don't think Kairin has only one ear....

Nice!
Excellent work on the latest version of Kairin Takumy. Interesting perspective, and some appropriate color selection for spring. It would have been nice to see more of the lower half on the front page though, since some of the more impressive design work is down on the sleeve and along the Obi. Also, It could be the eyes or the way she's looking back, but she seems to have a devious aura. Maybe it's just me.

I know, I know. This is a common problem with our homepage artwork. Unfortunately our page design does not allow for more, at least not without making the image very much smaller or just padding the top with text . This is why I deliberately put a link to the post above, so people would know to check the full version...

My major problem with this Kairin is that it doesn't look like her at all... mouth too low, nose to high (or just to pointed upwards).
The non-computer-processed version looks much nicer due to the face being much... nicer. The general expression is gentle in the drawing instead of the uuhm... to be honest she's looking a bit like a bitch (sorry!). But that's just what I think... but the clothes are looking great (except for the rope-ish stuff). Again, sorry for being so negative. |

Eyes of the beholder.
It only took me a moment to get past that "Wow, that looks nothing like her" reaction and it developed into "...but I still really like it." The entire comparison comes from previous pictures of a fictional character. I think that the change from the sketch to the CG is very artistic in nature and well done. Congrats on beautiful new version of Kairin, Takumy. |

Artistic interpretation...
NightWish I'm not sure how you modified it, but it looks great! Edit: It may be a browser difference or screen resolution setting, but I was on another computer and suddenly most of her (including the belt) was visible. Now I'm back on my computer and it isn't anymore. *confused*
To VABG, it's perfectly acceptable to be critical of artistic design, but keep in mind Kairin is a mascot for the diverse Anime Suki community. While there is a template in place, it is by no means an exclusive definition of her character creation. So in reality, the unique and varied interpretations by different artists is more appropriate for the site. Last edited by mikesince83; 2008-03-31 at 17:36. |
