Figure collectors, just want to ask. Do you buy figures because you are fan of the characters or have there been time you buy a figure even though you are not a fan of the characters but just because the figure looks cool or has good design so you decided to buy it?

Most of the time, we buy figures because we're fans of the show and the characters. However, if we see a figure that appeals to us, we don't have to be a fan of the show or the character. For example, I have a One Piece figure solely because she appealed to me as figure, not because I'm a fan of One Piece.

I do both. I do buy mostly figures of characters I like, but I also have quite a few figures from works I have no interest of, simply because the figures look gorgeous.

A shelf full of Queens Blade figures in their black bondage versions for example.
Or Gift's realistic Saber and Saber Lily despite not caring about fate franchise.
And both 2013 and 2014 sets of Racing Miku figma, both together with their respective motorcycles, despite not being an avoid vocaloid fan.

E2046 mostly deal with resin. So you must ask before buying if the figure is pre painted or not...

What about characters that you like, but their character design is not that good, will you still buy their figures?

Given how expensive figurines are, I'm unlikely to buy an ugly figurine of my favourite character. To me, figurines are meant to serve as reminders of why I love a character/series so much, and I'm not really going to get that effect from an ugly figurine.

I only have one exception, and it was a really cheap prize figurine of Kikyou (from Inuyasha) which I bought at a local anime convention: http://myfigurecollection.net/item/57389

I later bought another Kikyou figurine which looks much nicer: http://myfigurecollection.net/item/19443

I got into figure collection because it provide panoramic view of character design. Some of the original anime styled character look so good, and they should have their own anime shows.

I also learned that it is an expensive hobby. Several people comment that this hobby is a money pit. Some figure collectors' attitudes are irritating. Their attitudes are figures are not for people who have no money to buy figures should not join this club. It is as figure collection requires money to buy sports cars and bags from famous brands.

The general feeling of figure collection is be aware of buying figures from countries other than Japan. The figure collectors' feedback are buying this product is testing your figure modification skill. Otherwise, you might be disappointed with figures' qualities. They also noted that 3D Printing is not going to encourage DIY trend, because painting a figure requires some skill.

I am not sure if purchasing resin figure is a good choice, since I haven't own any of it. I heard resin is more sun resistance than PVC, but resin is easier to break if it falls down.
