I know this is an old post to respond to, but she mentions the rest of her pack in episode 4 of season 1, Yue, Intin and Paromyuli(I've seen subs list the last name as two wolves, Paro and Myuli, in the English dub it sounds like it's one name). She said she went on a journey and believed she would return and find them, there was no mention of the Moon Hunting bear. In fact, episode 3 of season 2 shows she was completely unaware that anything happened to Yoitsu. Of course, this is all going by the anime, I'm just starting the novels, so there could be differences.

Necromancy is "a-ok here" for these kinds of discussions

You're right, there are some.... ?inconsistencies? in some of the data... it may be she simply got separated ?before? the attack and couldn't find them later. Then she just drifted til she met the village boy. Its been a while since I watched the series and I'm still plodding through the novels and the manga

I thought Holo left because the others in her pack treated her like she was "holy", and she didn't feel like she had any genuine friends? That's her rationale for going off on her own, she "wanted a friend", and she eventually found one in Pasloe.

I'm guessing that Paro and the others are her packmates, and not at her level.. but demigods nonetheless, because she still expects to reunite with them hundreds of years later.

But in Volume 4, it becomes clear that:

The last two (Paro and Myuri) are separate names.

Someone seems to ask this periodically... that's difficult to answer since the anime compressed and altered some things (like turning the first antagonist into a "she".... which the author admitted was a great idea (added to the complexity of the relationship with Lawrence) and he wished he could retcon it into his books).

The manga follows the light novel series fairly closely (including leaving that person as a "he").

The novels are complete (in Japanese at least)... the english translations of the manga and the light novels produced to date:
Novels (1-5 so far): http://www.yenpress.com/spice-and-wolf-novel/
Manga (1-6 any minute now): http://www.yenpress.com/spice-and-wolf-manga/

I'm reading both... if I had to recommend, I'd say start with the manga volume 1 - read through those and then read the light novels from volume 1. I say volume 1 of each because there are different scenes, the artwork of the manga is pretty good, and the novels give you a better notion of what the characters are thinking.

The short answer is: the (officially translated) novels just caught up to the anime in volume 5, so you'll be able to read the next part of the story when 6 is released in a few months. The manga is still catching up to the end of season one.

If you want the finer details, go for the novel. If you want the nicest visuals, go for the manga. If you're a big enough fan, go for both and compare for yourself

Some of the story was altered in volume 5 for the anime I believe. Read the novels regardless, it gives a bit more insight to what the characters are thinking.

You would probably get a lot of information browsing this rather short thread (~10 pages). But yes... its Japanese, its a light novel series, its written in kanji at a level targeted to "young adults" (seinen). A high school senior should know about 2000 kanji and, of course, all the kana.

I am comfortable up to about 4th grade difficulty with a smattering of grownup words. I usually read light novels with several dictionaries handy and a pen and paper for the more complicated moments. The more I do it, the better I get, whee but for most folks, the Yen Press legal translations are the ticket.

No doubt that it is really inspired by Florence. The buildings are well-known monuments (Duomo di Firenze, Palazzo Vecchio) that cannot be confused with something else. The names are also from Italian (Lorenzo, Medio etc.). Strong influence of church and many independent cities with their own dynasies also indicate medieval Italy.

Here is a screenshot from "Wolf and Her Helpless Partner" with clues:

That's certainly an optimistic subject for 2012? ;-)

The intro videos almost make it look like a "battle action series" -
but it will be "Platinum Investment - I choose you!" or something

The first novel is already out, there's a translator working on it since 2012 december.

"World End Economica" is a Dōjin game and he is writing the scenario.
So to speak, this is a thing of his hobby.

On the other hand, it seems that the details of his 2nd novel are released by Dengekibunko magazine (April 10 publication).
In the afterword of Spice and Wolf, he is expressing that it is a novel of a strange thing.
It will become clear in several days.
I am looking forward to it.

2 Questions:
(Anime)
1.) Can someone tell me why Horo has no nipples in her human form ?
2.) How did Horo handle the wolf pack in the last episode (episode 13, season 1, Time: ~2:50) ?
She said she handled it with maturity but how exactly :d

thx already ^_^

I'm not sure where you got that idea. Don't mistake some artistic modesty for canon, eh? They were just avoiding the Japanese broadcast standards for their version of an "R" rating. No nipples drawn seems to do it even if the rest of the breast is drawn. Moral: censor boards are idiots. Now I feel compelled to go check the DVD version and see if they were returned (never paid attention before).

As she says indirectly, she simply "let" the the pack leader think he was superior to her. In wolf terms, the protocol is "exposing the throat or belly" or in human terms, she bowed to him. Better to let some youthful idiot strut around than to jeopardize the larger mission.
