Thanks for the reply SeijiSensei. I learned a lot from your post. It's crazy how much different our cultures are in that aspect, at least to the domestic fandom. I wonder how the reaction was to the EF series? Are shows of that nature not popular by definition in Japan?

I knew before hand that there aren't many anime/manga where there's much intimacy portrayed directly to the viewer, so I wasn't really looking for suggestions for that in this thread, or for characters who are my age. I'll eventually get around to your suggestions, just give me time.

How about you give Hoshi o Ou Kodomo a shot. It's a really moving and great movie.

I finished Kanon 2006 and a random recommendation from another thread: Mayo Chiki. Kanon I thought was great, almost as much as Clannad. It was weird though, since instead of the whole harem theme, it seemed platonic in this show. Not a bad thing, just an observation. I wasn't expecting that. Makoto was my favorite.

Mayo Chiki I loved simply because of one of the main characters, Mr./Mrs. Subaru. Such an awesome character! I hope a second season comes out. I really liked the humor and the fan service wasn't flat out annoying like some other shows I've seen.

Wow I just finished Spice and Wolf.. I want more! The ending came too soon. I want to adore Holo, but she's too scary. I don't think there are many people that could handle a woman like her. What a far cry from the stereotype she is! Because of this I have great respect for Lawrence. It was a joy watching them interact.

I tried Aishiteruze Baby and Maria-sama Ga Miteru, but I couldn't get into either one. Both seemed too.. one dimensional, I guess. Nothing really excited me about either one.
I enjoyed watching Mai Hime, it was fun although a bit predictable. The art and action scenes are what drew me in, though not quite on the level of Fate Stay Night.
I also watched True Tears. I enjoyed the characters but was so mad at the girl chosen in the ending. *shakes fist* It didn't feel as deep to me as Clannad for instance, and definitely not EF.
I skipped Tenshi na Konamaiki for now because of the art style. It doesn't really look like my thing..

Kirito, I am looking for series, but I may watch the movie you suggested with a friend tomorrow. Thanks for the comment. =)

I'm not sure what I'll watch next but I'll make sure to keep you all updated. Thanks again everyone for the time you've spent in replying to my selfish request.

Not many people give their feedback after receiving suggestions, and I am often left wondering about the helpfulness of my suggestions, so it's nice that you do.

To be honest, for anime fans, there are few things more gratifying than getting other people to watch and enjoy the stuff we like

I just finished Chihayafuru and Princess Tutu.

Chihayafuru really surprised me. I thought that a pointless show about a card game would never be able to touch me. I ended up laughing and crying and hoping and being anxious right along with all the characters. Chihaya is an amazing character. Was it still pointless? Well, yes. There could have been a lot more character development without so much karuta.
I liked it a lot though. Thank you thundrakkon for letting me know about yet another great show.

As for the other show..
Spoiler:

Thank you arachni42 for telling me I needed to see Princess Tutu. I really did.

Next I'm watching Basilisk and then Fushigi Yuugi.

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy Aishiteruze Baby and Marimite. Those shows do lack a lot of the excitement that other shows have, so it is understandable.

True Tears was a you either love it or hate it show. Yes, a lot of fans hated the chosen ending, but you had a feeling it was going to end that way.

As for Tenshi na Konamaiki, I did warn you that the art style is a bit jarring. However, you will get used to it, and they slightly improve later on, as well as the story getting better later on in the show. It is the most common complaint about that show. But no worries, there are a lot of other good shows on your list for you to watch.

You're welcome. Season 2 will be coming out in the future, but I'm guessing next year.

Your plate is currently full, so I won't suggest anything further until you're almost done with your list.

I watched the first 4 of Basilisk. It's like Naruto all over again. I'm sorry I just can't do this. On to the next show.

Fushigi Yuugi was great! I'm glad I took a chance on a longer, older series. I really liked how Miaka changed and matured throughout the series. The plot was riveting.

I also grew pretty attached to Nakago and Hotohori. They were both so awesome. *sniff*
This show is now definitely on my all time favorites list. Thanks Mr/Mrs Evil Laughter!
It looks like Welcome to the NHK! is next.

I just finished Welcome to the N.H.K.! Even though the subject matter was serious, there was always some playfulness in the tone and lots of laughs. I enjoyed all the main characters quite a bit, though of course I would have loved to have known more about Misaki. Thanks for the great suggestion.
I'm thinking about Ayashi no Ceres next, or maybe some other romance.. I'm in the mood for something sappy and funny.

Because Ayashi no Ceres is a serious romance, you better watch it if you are in the mood of it. Since you are in the mood of romantic comedies, you have better research it and see something interesting (or not) for you.

Nodame Cantabile is still a good bet. There's also always School Rumble if you're looking for funny with a romance theme.

Yeah, I've had some experiences (not as bad) but similar. *shakes fist at MMOs and unemployment* xD
I hate how so few people seed on this website anymore. Oh well.

I forgot to mention that I also watched Hoshi o Ou Kodomo. Wow! Thanks for that fantastic suggestion, Kirito. I wasn't expecting much, and it turned out to be one of the most wonderful and epic films I've seen. The art was absolutely breathtaking.

When I said romantic and funny, I was thinking something like Mayo Chiki. I wish there was a second season for that show. I don't really care either way if there's a harem or not, just romantic and funny. I'm done with Ayashi no Ceres and I loved it. I wish it was longer though, like Fushigi Yuugi.

I'm not sure I understand this comment. AS lists unlicensed Japanese anime with English subtitles. The number of such series has shrunk enormously in the past few years because of licensed streaming. I see that as a positive trend because it means most shows are now available legally to most people in North America. It does pose a problem for people in other countries, of course, since they may not have access to the same streaming content because of region-locking. Still it's not like there aren't other torrent listing sites that don't have the same policies as AS, and there's always nyaa.eu (not to mention the unmentionable TT and the Bakas).

What exactly are you missing?

I never thought of it that way. I guess it's just more nostalgia than anything. I remember fansubs on VHS. You have a good point. =)
