Percent of households with a TV tuned to a specific channel or program. Most of the data in this thread come from Kantou. Wikipedia reports that Kantou represents about a third of the total population of Japan, though how that translates to households depends on the size of households in Kantou versus the rest of Japan. If you really want to know the answer, look at this spreadsheet.

More information on ratings methods.

That's probably what the producers have in mind anyway? :P
Yeah, I bet that's what the producers are hoping for, and it's not going to work. The Manga Nippon no Mukashibanashi Special was probably watched by an older audience for a little nostalgia, and the shows that normally air on nichigo are for a younger, much different viewership. At best, it may raise the rating for the first episode, but that's about it.

Ao no Exorcist is from a shounen magazine (Jump SQ), so maybe it can appeal to more of the kids than a teenager-targeting high school slice of life type like Star Driver. But something tells me that Ao no Exorcist won't improve the ratings much.

Sadly, I have to agree with solomon in that it'll probably take some kind of blockbuster hit to bring the ratings back up. If there really is a Gundam series coming this Fall, that might just be it.

C/Anohana - 1.6 says the magical bbs. The only positive thing is that this is not the lowest first week ever.

I believe Episode 14 was a recap, which may explain the extremely low rating. Then again, Gundam SEED had a number of recaps and they never rated as low as that. Strange...

Oh yeah, I saw the Top 10 for this past week. Toriko went down to around 6.0% if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if I'll follow it, but it'd be a real shame if it continues to dip in the ratings and gets canned. It'd be nice to know that other anime besides One Piece and Conan can get high ratings today. But judging by past shows, it seems that only classics, like Gegege no Kitaro and Dragon Ball, can draw in the viewers.

Maybe they didn't let the viewers know when the next episode will be a recap.

If it wasn't so lazily done, it wouldn't drop. Plus it did come out along with Gintama s2 and while One Piece is still at its peak.

I believe constant remakes will somewhat save the industry. Yeah, exactly what Hollywood does.

Finale episode of Madoka Magica reached 2,3% in Kansai Area.
Quote:
The survey firm Video Research reports that the 12th and final episode of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime series earned a 2.3% rating in Osaka's Kansai area early Friday morning. In addition, 22.6% of the Kansai households with a television on at 3:10 a.m. were watching the final episode of this magical girl anime.

The anime's producers were planning to air the final episode at the end of March in the anime's usual timeslot at 1:25 a.m. However, the anime's final episodes had been pre-empted out of "self-restraint" in the aftermath of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster, and then delayed temporarily. Osaka's MBS station was the first station in Japan to air the final two episodes of the anime, followed by Tokyo's TBS station about an hour later.

Probably would have been higher if not for the delay, but nothing could have been done with that. Good thing it had a decent % overall though.

No, it's probably that high because of the delay. It built up anticipation and let the word about Madoka spread for a month.

Eh, even though ratings for late night anime are meaningless lets not act like 2.2% is anything special in the first place. I think it was around 2% most of the time and even got over 3% for it's original run... I mean just going back 10 pages.. I see Amagami SS debut with 2.2% and than a few weeks later even get a 3.4%.

It's good to see the Keroro rerun listed there and the ratings are right behind Bleach's.

I hope the show can actually return next year when they finish this 7th season rerun.

I seriously doubt censorship is the cause for the dip in ratings. If this were something aimed at the otakus, maybe. But this is supposed to be a mainstream series for the kids. I don't think they'll stop watching because of a lack of blood.

If anything, it's because Toriko simply isn't a popular enough series. Apparently it's doing okay to keep running on Shonen Jump, but One Piece sells ten times the amount of volume copies that Toriko does. Hopefully, the ratings will go back up and hang around 6-8% at least, but I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to dip and gets canceled within a year or two.

As for Ao no Exorcist, I'm not sure if the number for it is out yet. But it wasn't in the Top 10, so it's definitely lower than 5.0%. I would like to think it can do better than Star Driver, though.
