Great. I guess I'll cross my fingers then (I can't remember if the files in my storage are the AnimeKeep subs, the AXN subs, or both)

Do you have encoding experience? I don't mean to prejudge, but I do know a few quality encoders so I could ask around first. And did you mean hardsubs? I don't see the reason why do hardsubs? Softsubs would be a lot better... |

I'd like to think so
I use meGUI to encode, using h264 set to one of the animation presets. I plan to have hardsubs for the fancy bouncy karaoke OP and ED, while having softsubs for the rest of the translation. Search for my nick on Demonoid if you like to see sample encodes I have. It's not anime tnough. Forum rules being what they are, I guess I can't link directly or say more about it. I haven't actually gone and look at the srt files provided in the torrent. I guess if the timing is as terrible as you say, this is going to be harder than I thought |

I've managed to get a hold of the AXN subtitles (in VCD format). That means the project can go on ahead
Please go to http://chuuka.jetsam.org/forums if you wish to volunteer to be a timer and/or transcriber. Your offer is greatly appreciated, plau. There ARE quite a few kanji that were not fully translated by AXN (mostly pertaining to techniques and names of dishes). Your assistance will be quite helpful in maintaining consistency. For example, Wade-Giles vs. Hanyu Pinyin. AXN translates 劉(刘)昴星 into "Liu Mao Hsing", but the Pinyin equivalent for Hsing is "Xing". Plus there's the cuisine vs. province name issue to deal with (Szechuan food but Sichuan province, Peking Duck but the City of Beijing)... Oh, and Merry Christmas, by the way! |

For the cuisine vs. province, it's purely a matter of convention. Beijing used to be called Peking, so when people named the food they called it Peking Duck, but nowadays, the city is called Beijing, so people still call the dish Peking Duck. I think the best course of action is to use their original names (the series is set in the 19th Century) (i.e. Peking for Beijing, Canton for Guangzhou and Szechuan for Sichuan, but we add notations to let them know of the modern name). As for naming convention, I'm still thinking about it. Let's talk on the other forum. |

I'm going to need help.
I haven't had much luck with acquiring the DVDs. The Hong Kong company (AllAnimeDVD) I ordered from has been remiss in sending the DVDs, saying that it's on "back order" (for six months!) The DVD boxset I found in the local store was nothing more than the Animekeep version burned to DVD. And the Taiwanese version I got from YesAsia was better quality than the rest, but was still VCD quality with hardsubbed Chinese. So, anyone got any ideas? The dude who ripped the Chinese subtitles, a "sunteng", is a member of this site > http://www.verycd.com/members/@u543798/. My Chinese is not at all strong, so I can't contact him directly. Can anyone here lend a hand? |

Kung Fu Chefs
Know what i watched this Kung Fu movie the other day called Kung Fu Chefs . It reminded me of this show a lot . The premise of the movie is quite similar . There is attention to detail to cooking process and well explained . But Kung Fu is the main theme then cuisine itself . Originally goes by Gong fu chu shen . Wow, no posts since 09 eh? Well it being 2011, I think it'd be good to draw attention to something that happened since the last post...
What Zergrinch announced in 09 began with the first 5 in a batch on feb '10. It was done up to ep 8 when he made the above post, and by the time of Zu Ra's, 24 were done. On June 17th, CMBT finished the series as far as I can tell. If I can figure out how to torrent and cna spare the bandwidth, I think it would be amazing to put together a massive 1-52 batch of this work to host on Nyaa. Currently it looks like Zerg has actually already mirrored the work there: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=search&cats...+master&sort=5 it seems only the 37-52 is listed as chuuka.jetsam. I know this wasn't the version I watched though, because previous to this, there was a version up on AnimeSuki that had chinese (mandarin or cantonese not sure which) audio and someone had fansubbed that. It seems to be gone now. While I am glad there is now authentic Japanese audio, since the show was set in China, it would be pretty cool if we had that previous version up too. It makes me curious if it would be possible for people to do dual audio to hear both versions of the voices. |

A complete CMBT pack is also available on BakaBT, but note that I've managed to secure DVD audio of both Mandarin and Cantonese. So I'm going over everything, with the hope of eventually releasing the entire series in all three languages. No estimated completion dates though |

I have the whole complete series however some are in Cantonese and Mandarin. My parents didn't really look properly when investing on VCDs. I was hoping if there were any english translated manga of MCB, as I can't read in Traditional Chinese, even though I'm Chinese myself. I have flicked through the last chinese translated manga volume and it has a completely different ending then the one in the anime. :C |
