I find that the problem with Reideen is that it's slow as well as non-progressive. I vowed to watch it throughout, though, so that's what I am doing right now. Still, the art is great, and I give props to Production I.G. for that.
But you'd have expected something to happen to the bracelet and Shiori. Chekhov stated that if one saw a gun in a play one should expect it to be used before the play ends. I wonder if that will happen here, or if Gadeon shall remain simply a bracelet in Shiori's hands until the show ends.

Episodes 18 and 19 have been subbed. Judging by the preview for episode 20, it looks like the trio of alien invaders have come a long way in terms of their planning for the invasion of Earth since their bumbling days when they were fooled by Junki's alarm device.

Plz let it be true. Plz let it be true. Plz let it be true. Plz let it be true. Plz let it be true. There was a billion hints for that, but I'm still praying 'Plz let it be true.'
Only reason why I'm still following this series is to see if the childhood friend 'wins' lol. Shiori is just too moe, IMO. Otherwise, I could care less about the other characters (like those three bodyguards he has), the plot goes by the pace slower than a snail, and the mecha battles/design were just too bland for my tastes. Still, it would be so cool if Shiori gets to pilot Gadeon, lol.

Hoshikawa Hana x Saiga that would be cool ; Kobayakawa Shiori can't take a hint; Midorino Akira is a lifeless character. Interesting that hoshikawa was the only girl that actually got any character development. I have a feeling Reideen is going to have a rush ending.

There's only two episodes left, right? Still no explanation about the origin of Reideen or Midorino's connection with it (there has to be one). Not to mention the fact that Midorino's character was never fully developed. She has a flat personality and is just plain boring.
This series had some potential, but in the end it went nowhere. Don't see how much they could fix in two episodes. Spoiler for ep 24:

Well, the ending has been rather typical, but I thought that the series as a whole had this redeeming dose of weird quirkiness that has made it stand out among other similar shows.
It's not the kind of series that I thought I'd ever watch again (having seen enough 70's mecha in my time, thank you very much), but the pretty character designs, a common sense approach taken by the main character and various crazy little tidbits made it worth the pain. Honestly, with the way they've (mis)handled the whole Midorino storyline, I never even expected any miracles here. It was already quite obvious as to what's going to happen. But man... Roxell and his cat... they were GRAND! 8) |
