I highly doubt that there are any "fairytale and folktale references", symbolism that will be so vague and obscure that one needs to have a PhD in Japanese mythology and cultural history to appreciate. Further, I hardly think that others are being dismissive: they likely see that the elements are simply visual motifs for changes in Mizore and Nozomi's friendships that act as a representation of how things unfold for the two.
I'll reserve my own thoughts for when I see this movie for myself: it's most likely that this will be an October 2018 release (or later, given how the studios release things).

New Movie: Hibike Euphonium: Chikai no Finale
And the original cast is back with new first year characters as well as original visual and style being back! The story will follow the first part of the sequel novel with Kumiko and her friends in their second year. New first year Characters include (from the novel): Hisaishi Kanade (Euphonium) - Clingy type, soft and fluffy, loves gathering information, love taking selfies and loves her senpai (Kumiko!) Suzuki Mirei (Tuba) - Tall, tomboyish, and serious type, loves seinen manga and going to karaoke, hates herself Suzuki Satsuki (Tuba) - Jolly and energetic type, loves dogs and loves looking up interesting things, hates cup ramen and loves her mom's curry rice Tsukinaga Motomu (Contrabass) - Serious type, hates being called cute (since he is a boy), fond of his elder sister, hates his grandfather, keen about astronomy and celestial observation Edit: As expected, Kanade will assume one of the three main character alongside Kumiko as in the first part of the second novel, the other being Natsuki. I wonder if Kohinata Yume (Trumpet) would make an appearance. If she doesn't, that would mean Reina's involvement would be much less in the story. So damn excited and I haven't seen Liz to Aoi tori yet!

This is what I predicted after the keihan news that came out in March 2018. So I am not surprised to see the movie being pushed to 2019. I was right on the money when I said it won't be until Spring 2019.
I am hoping that the movie will be 1hr 45mins in actual duration (excluding the credits) at least. That would mean 5 episodes worth of TV anime content which will be more than enough to cover the first volume. The second volume won't be animated because we know why. Side note: I wonder if they would bring back or leave THAT part untouched. As Ishihara mentioned that he expected her to end up with HE-WHO-SHUUD-NOT-BE-NAMED. As for Liz's BD, haven't seen any release date mentioned in the official twitter. But that will probably have to wait AFTER we get Chuunibyou: TAKE ON ME.

It says: 後悔はしたくない which means it's a bait! So, the rumoured news in 2ch that KyoAni expected the two of them to end up together was just a bait!
/dances happily while cynically laughing (WA HA HA HA HA). Spoiler:
