Koe no Katachi
Surprised that I couldn't find a thread of this manga given the amount of talk that it generated in Japan.
Koe no Katachi (The Shape of your Voice) is a oneshot manga by Yoshitaka Ooima. Although it won the 80th Weekly Shounen Magazine Newbie Best Mangaka Award, its content made it difficult for publication in any manga magazine, until it was picked up after months of legal dispute by the February edition of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine. It was also confirmed that it will be serialized About the plot... The story is about Japanese middle school girl called Nishimiya Shouko who is deaf and gets repeatedly bullied by her classmates because of her condition. However, she tries to be polite towards a male classmate named Shouya Ishida who is one of the people who bully her and happens to be the narrator of the story. Spoiler for spoilers:

Just read this today, I loved it. Very powerful stuff. I get emotional really easily so I cried a lot, especially when he realized that she had been cleaning his desk. The end when he finally found her again, that part also made me cry a lot. The flashback scene showing her crying with her fists clenched, and just seeing the two of them together like that. The cruelty of kids in real life is awful and I really wish it wasn't a thing, but I feel this story encompassed that in a very sad, but beautiful way. I'm still crying even now (even as I write this). I'm really happy it's getting serialized though, I wonder how the serialization will take this story.

Well the serialisation could either expand on the middle school setting, after the time skip, or even both, depending on how long it can stay serialised.
Personally I much rather see the middle school expanded, which would definitely make for a very dark series. If the author went with the high school era, it could go both ways. A possibility would be she gets bullied during high school, but since this time the boy is on her side, which can make for some good developments also. |

same here he was angry just because of the choral thing and now that the principal knows about the situation he blamed the kid although its too late (and i thought at first that the poor girl did commite suicide when she no longer came to school)
but i like this type of original manga who are more realistic |

its pretty normal, in grade school, someone weird... should i say 'unique'? someone like that really attract bully or people who want to tease them.
and its not like we (other classmate) want to ruin their (unique people) life, its just... its 'fun' usually, people like this would be 'ignored' in high school and university. example : read/watch 'its not my fault if im not popular / watamote'
