You prolly already know about this, but just in case - sometimes brands create drivers for the OS that came released with the machine and over time later OS's, but sometimes they don't make drivers for earlier OS's.

I assume you have all the drivers necessary? Hopefully Toshiba has them available for XP? If not found at Toshiba maybe you can find a forum or something similar where other people with the same model have gone through the trouble of assembling/listing all necessary drivers.

That's the only thing I can think of off hand. Best of luck to you.

How can it be considered an upgrade if you're moving from a newer OS (Vista) to older one (XP?). If your laptop runs Vista, get Win7. It's like Vista, but better, and more lightweight.

it is a upgrade because XP is better then vista. I don't want to spend too much money on it because it is NOT my primary laptop (which is Win7).

A 5-year old (so 2007?) laptop should still have some drivers for XP. But in case it doesn't, and assuming you still want to use that laptop with Windows, just make sure you can reinstall Vista in case your XP installation failed.

If XP works for you, then great. If not, Vista should still work even if you think it's worse than XP, especially if it's not your primary computer. The only other choice, assuming XP doesn't work and you don't want to spend any more money just to use that laptop, is to go with a free/open source operating system.

So $120. Yeah, going with Windows XP is a good idea for a secondary computer.

nevermind the Sata driver problem

just went disable sata in bios.

install XP, found drivers for Lan card but needs drivers for wireless.

all done no more Vista

made broils grow on the forehead of the manager who approve Vista.

You should download drivers for all of your devices, especially the chipset. The machine wasn't made for XP, after all.

I had a double-take with the thread title; should've been called a downgrade as you're switching over to XP (which is a good choice BTW; Vista tends to be too resource-hungry lest you go up to Win7).

Well, it's an Up-Downgrade.

Vista is horrible. It was a horrid mistake on Microsoft's part.

Had a full copy but never got to install it due to it being resource-crazy back then (as a former PC rentals assistant manager, I once handled D-model Pentium 4 rigs, which were all too feeble for Vista's monster hardware requirements).

No doubt. I'd take XP in a heartbeat over Vista. Hell, I'd even take 2000, it was pretty bulletproof
