Okay, Beto, I'll admit it...you're a leech, too.

Happy now?

Just kidding around. Although on the anime downloading front, I really got no principles.

As I said, after meeting a few miserable people who work in the industry, I'm beginning to get some principles...

Seriously, if you spent 40 minutes talking to a woman who does color design for various low-level TV series (as I did a few weeks ago), you'd probably be horrified by the repercussions of fansubs and scanlations.

I'm not assigning blame or attacking anyone...just saying that the actual work of animation and manga art is tough, thankless work...and people are leaving the industry in droves because of it.

So yeah...scanlations of the Sheryl comic (for example) give the work more exposure...but if people don't end up buying the book, then all that exposure is a waste at best, and kills the sales of the comic at worst.

Okay...rant over. We now return you to Guilt-Free Free Anime, already in progress.

Well, I already responded to that point in-depth before, but let's have another stab at it. At least it raises my post-count.

First off, if I had any actual money to spend on stuff I could not understand ( which means, if I suddenly won the lottery or got any other kind of impressive financial boost ), then I would buy the products. I don't download to snub my nose at the work and livelyhood of those people, I do it because I can't spend the needed money.

Secondly, to this is added the problem that Macross really isn't available in some sort of translated fashion, outside of scanlations and fan-subs. I blame Harmony Gold for being insufferable greedy dicks.

As to other anime, there are few which have made as much of a lasting impression to be considered "buy" material. Record of Lodoss War, Full Metal Panic, Escaflowne, Hellsing TV, Utawarerumono ... all of them are good, but not to the point I'd want them as DVD's. I mostly buy books, because re-reading them tickles my imagination more than re-watching a series. Macross Frontier is a notable exception to that.

Well, you'd be completely flabbergasted about some people's views on the correlation between sales and the actual continuation of works like anime and manga. Suffice it to say that some even go so far as state that direct sales figures are an illusion and hold no meaning over such decisions by the companies.

All very esoteric to me, as I've always believed that sales of the actual product + merchandise are what keep these companies churning out more stuff, but hey... What do I know?

As for actually buying stuff... I'm kinda compulsive to a point. Ever since buying a PS3, I haven't purchased a single DVD - other than the continuation of some anime series being released locally, simply to "complete the sets" - and I bought a good volume of Blu-Rays... Surprise, surprise, lots of anime. But I only buy stuff I can understand (and I can understand a good deal of portuguese, spanish, english, italian and french), so japanese-only stuff is difficult. Nonetheless, I do have some japanese imports, like Princess Mononoke on DVD (which has portuguese dub and sub tracks) and some music shows/collections (stuff like May'n and some Megumi Hayashibara). TV shows and OVA's/movies, however, are a big no-no - I enjoy understanding what everyone's shouting about.

Fine. Don't give me grief about my stance and I won't give you grief about yours. Deal?

I, for one, wasn't giving you any grief. Merely joking among friends. If that's not warranted, please let me know, ok?

credits to Lavender88 for translation.

Quote:
Sheryl's manga premiere extra pages:

Q: At first, she only had one song?
K: Before we found May'n, sheryl's connection with the story was just as far as singing one or two songs.

Quote:
Ranka's booklet:

Kawamori: It's always the more interesting to start off at the point before somebody becomes an idol
K: If we're still doing a slow pace in today's era, nobody would be interested at all. So we decided to showcase a girl who is already popular and let the audience hear her sing, so that we could use her to describe the process of another girl's rise to being an idol at the same time.
There is a lot more to translate, maybe somebody here can help us a bit

So, the manga is different in continuity than the series and the movies. By this point, I begin to ask myself if we are to consider all of them the official continuity.

Many thanks for the translation, AlaAlba! Are the even more interview pages?
