so I'll kick it off with a easy one.

For what reasons did you all get involved in fansubbing, and for the vets what pushes you to continue?
I got into fansubbing because of one anime: Hungry Heart Wild striker.
There were only a poor fansub avaible, and I wanted to bring out HQ versions.

Instead of only watching anime I figured it would be more satisfying to help bring out more subbed anime to the community.

I wish I'd know that xD

Well I guess it's turned into one of my hobbies and as long as it's a fun way of spending my free time I'll pursue that hobby...

So am I, to a point.

Back in '91-'93 time frame, I started translating Record of Lodoss War (the novel) just because I could. I loved the stuff, and I thought, only if I could share with friends over here... (I finished first two chapters, but I never kept those copies) So, I always had the desire to do translations for fun.

In summer of '01, I came across fansubs while browsing through newsgroups. I was very anime-deprived kid. I got hooked.

In December of '01, some crazy recruiter from A-Keep messaged me on ICQ out of blue, asking me if I wanted to translate for them. I jumped in, switched to Infusion 4 days later, and the rest is history.

I still continue because I can. Really. T T There's no getting out of this crazy world.

Okay, that question has gotten boring... Next question:

What's the show you had the most fun subbing, and why?

Dendoh. It's awesome actually having a staff and not needing to do everything yourself. Awesomer when you all love the show and are on the same page.

Well, I tend to enjoy working on lines that require a bit of thought and artistic creativity. I enjoy crafting an aesthetically pleasing script from a disorganized, broken text. The feeling I get after an edit is similar to how I feel after I organize a garage. I never want to take the initial plunge into the mess but once it is done, I feel rather proud until I notice a flaw the next day. Thus, the edits I enjoy the most after the fact are those that require the most out of me. Before I start an edit, however, I like the easy ones for I am a lazy editor--a tautology, to be honest, for we are all lazy.

As for the shows I’ve worked on, Mahoraba is the one I enjoyed watching the most. It isn’t, however, the show that has produced the most challenging edits for me. That show will remain a secret.

Hmm. I forget why I got involved now, I suppose I just thought it might be fun. Pita Ten was the anime that got me into it. I didn't work on it for anyone (minus helping out HnK a little bit on some recent releases of their version), but I guess it just made me want to fansub in general.

What have I had the most fun with? I don't know. My enthusiasm for doing what I do kind of goes up and down. I might enjoy something one day and hate all of the work it involves the next. I could easily name titles that have caused me grief... I guess the ones I've had the least issues with would be like.... Well damn, I've had issues doing most of the shows I've worked on.

I guess the ones I've enjoyed most would be Air (not finished, but still working on it) and Kashimashi (just getting started, so that may not last)

Oi, I can't let that one slide - I make my living off prescriptive grammar! >.<

Descriptive grammar, while great and ever useful for understanding what is happening and why, isn't useful when it comes to actually teaching a language. Both prescriptive and descriptive approaches to grammar are recognized as accurate approaches to language study as have both their strengths and weaknesses; the former is applicable to language instruction where the latter is more advantageous in the linguistic study of language. >.>;

Language education is the realm of prescriptivist grammarians. >.<

Now, for the topic of the thread.

I guess I felt it was time to give something back to the community (that and I thought it would be fun). Granted, I'm slow at releasing things and the series I work on aren't that popular as a whole but I figure something is better than nothing and I've had fun doing it.

The reason I got into fansubbing was because of the severe lack of Ojamajo Doremi love in the english speaking anime community.

Then one thing led to another, and now we have 4 concurrent projects. Fun, eh?

Besides, it's my senior year in High School, might as well do something to kill time instead of playing Counter-Strike with my friends (which I suck at).

I had been making AMVs and encoding a few years before I got into fansubbing. What the hell was my first encode? Let's see... Well my video folder has the oldest file as my first AMV, that was October 2001. As for first encode, that was September 2002 (maybe earlier, numerous upgrades and backups may have altered the timestamps) which was an analog TV capture of Hercules (the live action one produced by the same guys who did Xena).

As for fansubbing, I joined the group I look after now (or attempt to) 29 January 2005, yes, it's nearly my 1 year anniversary I got into it when I found that they were subbing Mamotte Shugogetten. It was a series that caught my eye, I don't exactly remember when or where I discovered it, but Shaolin being so cute was a factor that made me want to watch the show As it turns out the show was right up my street. They were only looking for a part time encoder, and I hoped to work on Mamotte Shugogetten, of course jobs etc. were already assigned. I wanted to help out on Shugogetten because I appreciated the fact that they were working on it when it was relatively ignored, I wanted to show my thanks by hopefully being a help to the group. Things don't work like that though

Why do I continue? Well I doubt I will continue. I've had my fill of fansubbing and I'll jack it in if and when I'm able to tie up and close current projects, or at least until someone decides to take over. I would be sad for us if the group just ceased to exist. I'll probably just go back to the way things were and just encode my own AMVs and stuff, but I wouldn't be adverse to lending a hand as a personal favour if I would ever be needed.

Hard to say, Maria-sama ga Miteru was actually pretty fun since it was one of the more intresting shows I've done but I think the most fun I've had with a show would be Kurau Phantom Memory. Reason being is because I did so much (at the time) of the work. I Styled karaokes, typesetted, logo stuff (At least initially),qc corrections and finally encoded... Not to say that it was a one man show, but a lot of it did sorta depend on me. One of the few shows I actually really really liked.

Apparently girls hug silverfire when he says he's part of anime-keep... of course it's probably really because they want him to do their math hw or something... /hmm
